"A source told FanHouse the Cardinals are now out of the running for Diamondbacks right-hander Dan Haren, and The Record of Hackensack, N.J., and FoxSports.com are reporting the Yankees have emerged as front-runners to land the pitcher. A FanHouse source from a third team has heard the same... Multiple sources said the Diamondbacks seem determined to trade Haren by Monday."
Yankees Reportedly Front-Runners. Jack Magruder agrees, and says of the Yanks, "Their minor league system is stocked; Haren cannot veto deal to either New York team."

We really are
getting good at shooting ourselves in the foot.
Our system just screams we are over loaded with quality pitchers. There are a ton of other position players I’d love to see gone, but not one of our top if indeed the top pitcher we have on the staff.

Nick Piecoro tweets
Dbacks CEO Derrick Hall: "Definitely no clear frontrunner (for Haren). They (Yankees) are involved like others. Nothing imminent."

the yankees can take qualls too
i hope the dbacks dont give in on their demands just to get a deal done
God I hope we a good return in this trade
This trade better end up with a consensus win for us.
I will write a story about each of the players we get in a potential deal, if haren is indeed traded.

Joba Chamberlain, Ivan Nova and Zach McAllister looks like package being offered for Haren from Yanks – could get done over weekened.

Mark Asher
was saying something on the radio that a deal with the yankees could hinge on them taking Qualls and Snyder as part fo the deal too.

Snyder, I can see
As he’s locked up longterm, but Qualls is only signed for next year – why would we demand any team take him?

A bat like j. monteros is worth way more than a bullpen arm. You don’t trade an ace for bullpen help.

more from gambo
Just got off phone with my Yankee source — says Nova and McAllister are both top 5 Yankee P prospects, Nova projects as #3 maybe a #2.
they have said they want ML-rr

clearly, on train...
They’ve said they want major league ready players in return. adding Joba to this would certainly make our our bullpen immediately better.

Who cares?
A crappy team like us doesn’t need relief help.
We need starters, or the best talent available regardless of position.
If we get Joba, we better move him to the rotation or this will be a big fail.
Actually, I think it’ll be a fail anyways…

uh....
How does that make sense? What’s the point of trading Haren then? We are a crappy team because our bullpen is a HUGE contribution to the crappyness.
exactly!
what really is the point of trading away Haren? Assume we only get bullpen guys: Who will move into the #1 spot in rotation? and who will move into the 5th spot or do we go with 4 for the rest of the year and next? can’t see a move like this being a positive in any light. I wish there was this much interest in some of the others, but I guess no interest speaks volumes to our suckiness.

Who cares about next year?
Trading Haren means major rebuild. If this happens we can let Benson start opening day next year for all the good it would do.
When we’re ready to compete, then we’ll get the bullpen pieces. It doesn’t make sense to trade for middle relief dudes two years before they’re needed.

OK.....
I can reeds? Thx.
what really is the point of trading away Haren
Would seem pretty clear. We are not a contender this year. Nor are we in 2011, whether we keep our Ace or not. So the point of this trade would be to better ourselves….later.
Assume we only get bullpen guys: Who will move into the #1 spot in rotation? and who will move into the 5th spot or do we go with 4 for the rest of the year and next?
Jackson will move to #1, I suppose. Enright will move to #5, I suppose. There’s also something called the free agent market of which we might make use. I hear Pedro will be ready by next year. :)
can’t see a move like this being a positive in any light
If you are shining the light only on 2010 and 2011, no, it’s not meant to make a positive in those years.
I wish there was this much interest in some of the others
Yes, a shame our backup catcher and washed up bullpen arms aren;t attracting as much attention as one of the top pitchers in baseball. Real shame.

Haren trade not an immediate fix
We do need bullpen help…ready to go two years from now. I agree, Joba better be looked at as a starter, or this offer stinks.
by Counsellmember on Jul 23, 2010 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions
And if we trade Haren
we won’t become a good team anyways. So yeah… what is the point of trading Haren? It pretty much concedes that we’re going to be a crappy team for a while, as we have no one to fill the ace role when he’s gone. A Jackson (if he doesn’t get traded)IPK/Parker/Enright/whoever rotation isn’t very scary.

I'm at my MIL's house
And all I see is “Dan Haren/Chris Snyder to Yankees” and my heart leaps. YOU GUYS WHAT THE HADES?

My heart hurts.
I do not want this.

Me neither!
DO NOT WANT.
Do the Dbacks want to make woman cry? Is that their goal?
"I gave them my heart and they gave me a horrible bullpen."
The part about Snyder, Heilam, etc...
reaks of a salary dump.
