For the year or so I've been a part of the Snakepit, I have noticed (and partaken in) a sense of community between the various posters. Rather than just being a bunch of internet people(mouth) who watch D'Backs games, we seem to be more a group of friends who are generally interested in each others lives, bound by the common thread of being D'Back fans. Operating under this assumption, and getting an okay from powers that be: I bring you this.
I work (officially work rather than volunteer as of Saturday) for Studio Connections, a sort of hybrid of an arts academy/community theatre on the east side of Tucson. This upcoming Thursday my theatrical directorial debut goes up in the form of Hate Mail by Bill Corbett (former writer for MST3K and voice of Crow in the Sci-Fi channel years) and Kira Obolensky.
Hate Mail, according to the back of the book, is an epistolary play something like A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters, with two actors reading letters and other correspondence, but it’s a little wilder and more hysterically funny. It tells the story of Preston, a spoiled rich kid who meets his match in Dahlia, an angst-filled artist. Their worlds collide when Preston sends a complaint letter that gets Dahlia fired from her job, and then there’s no turning back. The play stays with their increasingly crazed correspondence as they move from hate to love and then back again.
The theatre is located on the campus of St. Matthew's Episcopalian Church on 9071 E. Old Spanish Trail
Tucson, AZ 85710 (On OST between Harrison and Camino Seco). This show is also the premiere of Studio Connections' "Underground" season, which essentially is a late night series.
The show runs for two weekends. There is a FREE preview showing this Thursday. Should you not be able to make it to the preview, tickets are $10 a person, OR buy one free if you have a coupon (Essentially $5 a person), should you need a coupon, I can provide one in a sketchy manner at the box office (we're pretty lenient about that).
