No.1 pick Barret Loux didn't pass physical exam
According to Buster Olney:
That means we are going to have two top picks in next year's draft!
Great news!
Barret Loux simply isn't a first round talent, let along a top 10 pick.
Just hope that the FO could spend more money on the oncoming draft.

I'm wondering if this might have been semi-intentional?
This year’s talent wasn’t up to much, so punt your first-round pick and get basically the same one again next season, when things might be better? Interesting tactic, if so.

i was thinking the exact same thing when i first read the news. next year’s draft is supposed to be deep with talent…
still, that’d be a pretty douchebag move in my opinion…and i think i feel like we probably actually wanted him for us to pick him that high, so my guess is that we offer him a contract under-slot
hopefully he doesn’t take it and we get two picks next yr, but i doubt it

I also agree...
and it’s a tactic I think the Dodgers did when they drafted Zach Lee. Punt him and get another pick next season when your finances sort out.
Obviously the Dbacks are not in a Dodgers situation and I’m sure Loux would have been an easy slot sign but with the FO upheaval maybe Loux was seen as a Byrnes pick; although I’m wondering how much autonomy Tom Allison has as Scouting Director?

If DiPoto
is really calling the shots in baseball operations now, I wouldn’t expect him to reject Loux for being a “Byrnes pick”.

If this is indeed the case
then kudos to the club. This team needs to start living a little more in the grey area of baseball ethics. It would give our players something of an identity.
Im just going to go ahead and think of this as an intentional punt on our pick. Great move!

7th round pick has signed and in Missoula
Jeff Shields passed his physical and signed on Friday. He is now in Missoula to play in the Pioneer league.
It's the shoulder
Apparently, according to FoxSports.
Great news, shoulder problems from a pitcher increase the odds (IMO) that we’ll just pass on him and take the 2011 pick.
