Gameday Thread: 4/3 vs. Cubs
Well, the next time I write the words "Gameday Thread," it's gonna count... One final spring tune-up for Arizona, who can level their overall pre-season record at 16-16 with a victory today, which would also see them head into the regular campaign on a (meaningless, admittedly) four-game winning streak. And, of course, beating the Cubs is always a pleasure.
As noted elsewhere on the 'Pit, the roster has solidified itself, with the confirmation that Tony Abreu and Jordan Norberto have made the team. That leaves just one spot open, with the decision coming down to between our Rated-R Superstars, Ryan Roberts and Rusty Ryal. With neither of them in the starting line-up this afternoon, it seems the decision has likely already been made... And as I type these words, I see 'charmer is reporting that Ryal has got the nod. Time to finalize that roster on the sidebar!
Lineup after the jump. Game is on WGN this afternoon - presuming it's not blacked out in the Arizona area. Wonder if we'll get to 1,000 comments today, having heroically failed last night, despite some magnificent efforts on the comment padding front?
- Conor Jackson LF
- Stephen Drew SS
- Justin Upton RF
- Adam LaRoche 1B
- Mark Reynolds 3B
- Chris Young CF
- Kelly Johnson 2B
- Chris Snyder C
- Barry Enright RHP

it’s on. Awesome. First time I’ll be able to watch a Dbacks game in… well, almost a year.
Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.
It won't be blacked out for meeee, yay....
I haven’t noticed spring games being blacked out, so hopefully it’s on for ya’ll…

I do like the idea that MLB.tv doesn’t black out spring training games :>
Professional Lurker... if you see this, there may be a problem..
Oh speaking of MLB.tv….. anyone else here have it, and getting a strange screen when they ‘full screen’ the video?
Professional Lurker... if you see this, there may be a problem..
I don't have MLB.tv
but I was reading the support forums the other day and there’s apparently a problem if your comp’s resolution is above 1024×768... but I dunno, could be an isolated incident.
Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.

Since when is SBNation awesome enough to turn the x in-between numbers into that little awesome-looking x?
Ignore me, I’m easily entertained…
Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.
Anyway
From one of the moderators in that support forum:
“Try going to settings within the player. (Top left of the player.)
Make sure ‘Native’ is checked and ‘Dual Monitor’ is unchecked."
Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.
yep…was reading, that was already set….however I did the ESC thing 3 times and it fixed it….
Professional Lurker... if you see this, there may be a problem..
Aw, man
I meant to be home in time for the start of this. Curse you, Bookmans, for your wifi, comfortable chairs, and numerous distractions.
Well, I’ll go eat and be back.

Just to give everyone a heads-up
I doubt anyone will be as excited as me, but Yahoo!‘s fantasy baseball app finally hit the App Store… it’s free and pretty nifty.
Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.
of course
the one spring training game I’m capable of watching on TV and I’m scheduled for an ultimate frisbee match at game time.

Also, to Jim
I dunno if you saw my comment in your recap Fanpost, but if there’s ever a night that you don’t have anyone to recap and need someone I’m open to any game needing recapped. Last time didn’t go so well, which is why I don’t go outright and say put me down on certain days…
Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.
You know I'm back and used to SBN
when I try to “z” my way through Facebook and Twitter…

So WGN just said that the Cubs outsold everyone in ST
are we sure that Giants claim is accurate?
Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.
I noticed that
The article says the Giants’ number is 155,819. What did WGN say the Cubs’ # was? I may rewind…
Things ’Skins has in common with foulpole for 400, please. -- soco
Ha, well WGN is skewing the numbers
152,493 is the Cubs’ number. Possibly higher average, not higher total.
Things ’Skins has in common with foulpole for 400, please. -- soco
"Outsold"
Per game average, perhaps, but more people were at the Giants park this spring. So, not, they did not outsell the Giants.
"We defy augury" -- Hamlet
Yeah but the WGN graphic says "Led" cactus league
which is untrue.
Things ’Skins has in common with foulpole for 400, please. -- soco
As we already know very well
The Cubs are certainly leaders when it comes to making up numbers about spring training…
"We defy augury" -- Hamlet
I sent an email to WGN/Len & Bob
I’d be interested to see if there’s a response…
Things ’Skins has in common with foulpole for 400, please. -- soco
In fact
They are including all 81 Diamondbacks home games this year, just in case a Cubs fans shows up at them… :-)
And welcome to the Pit, too!
"We defy augury" -- Hamlet
That's cool
first pitch, and I gotta run. Back later, there is Carl’s Jr. to be had.
Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.
nope… no Spring Training games have been in HD
Professional Lurker... if you see this, there may be a problem..
some of us actually
watched the game live

I will do that
She and I originally met 8 years ago on the MLB Dbacks board…I was telling her about this one so she said she’ll probably join. Tomorrow I’ll send her the link to it
"AUGIE AUGIE AUGIE...OY OY OY!"
Not bad
Two K’s and a 1-2-3 inning for Enright, who has never pitched about Double-A.

Yes, down in the corner in left
about 5-8’ in front of the wall.

It was closer than that
It was right in front of Battlemoses and I

Enright continues to look decent, with another 1-2-3 inning
Or do the Cubs just suck?
"We defy augury" -- Hamlet
Two on for Snyder
Think they may be cautious and pitch around him with the pitcher on deck.
"We defy augury" -- Hamlet
Unwilling attendee
I suspect. Here’s to a foul-ball heading in their direction…

So where IS everybody today?
I don’t think we’re gonna hit 1,000, Jim….

Just checked in
don’t get WGN, and my local sports pub doesn’t open ’til 3:00.
Inning? Score? Highlights?
Key to the game: Score More
Top of the third
Scoreless through two, but it’s now 2-0 Cubs, and our starter (Double-A Barry Enright) looks rattled.
"We defy augury" -- Hamlet
My whole day's plans didn't work out
Too much time dawdling, but not a bad way to spend a nice spring day.
"Do we hug?" "I think we're too manly."
Pitcher self-destructing
He’s thinking way too much about it.

Miscommunication.... Upton drops it
he was looking at Johnson….
Things ’Skins has in common with foulpole for 400, please. -- soco
To his credit
He really had no idea where the ball was, it’s not like he saw it and was expecting Kelly to get it.

Mercifully over
Death by a thousand cuts that inning.
Knew we should have kept the roof closed. :-)

Uh oh......
CoJack hit in what looks like the wrist….. oh, maybe elbow/forearm….
Things ’Skins has in common with foulpole for 400, please. -- soco
Okay, it's just his forearm, not broken, he's smiling
but they did pull him for Parra.

Oh dude, Parra out by A MILE
Should NOT have been sent by 3rd base coach.

Bo Porter's our new 3B coach
I don’t know anything about him…

Er... He had the same position with the Marlins
For the past three years?
"We defy augury" -- Hamlet
Bailey running for Upton
Yup, everybody’s gonna be out….

Okay, that was funny.

Do you live in the Bay Area? You’re also a ’Niner and Sharks fan?
Things ’Skins has in common with foulpole for 400, please. -- soco
Appreciate the update
Gameday got stuck on the first batter. Fourth pitch was “in play, out(s)”, but it then threw another fastball at him, and has never been the same since…
"We defy augury" -- Hamlet
Ahh okay
That makes sense. Except we don’t know if we’ll let you be both an Arizona AND NY fan. ;)
Where/why were you in San Jose? I live about 15 minutes away.
Things ’Skins has in common with foulpole for 400, please. -- soco
Where near San Jose?
I went to high school in Fremont, and my families business (long gone) was in Milpitas.

I'm in Fremont!
Which High School??
Things ’Skins has in common with foulpole for 400, please. -- soco
American
I was in the first graduating class, which gives you an idea how long ago it was. Mom lived in Niles until her passing last year, so I used to go back there fairly often.

Ahh, okay :)
That’s neat though, to be a “first!” I’m an MSJ alum.

The BIG school
who always beat us up in both baseball and football. I hated them at the time.

We almost lost our varsity programs while I was there. We suck at sports now. Though we remain the big school. :)
Things ’Skins has in common with foulpole for 400, please. -- soco
Oh man
I had no idea where that was, nowhere near San Jose. The map indicates it’s practically Santa Cruz.
Things ’Skins has in common with foulpole for 400, please. -- soco
It's pretty midway between both
It’s up in the Santa Cruz Mountains, but again, most people not from the area have no idea where that is. And I worked in SJ anyway.
LOL THAT WAS REALLY FUNNY
“ALL YOU CAN EAT SEATS”, ARE YOU REALLY EATING THE CHAIRS?
LOLOLOLOL
Keep on truckin’, WGN.
Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.
So....
Still 3-0? Gameday appears to have been defensively replaced with a screenshot from the fourth inning.
"We defy augury" -- Hamlet
Bah
Sport is dead to me after travelling to the football today only for a ref to spoil my day, now the cubs intend to make it worse :o
Time for another drink then?
http://www.wimbles.wordpress.com
I never claimed
it was a GOOD game, I just said it was a day game. :)
Things ’Skins has in common with foulpole for 400, please. -- soco
A game is a game ;)
I suppose :)
I do need to subscribe to MLB.TV soon, though through work I now get free ESPN which is nice.

Enright's out
Leaves with two outs, top five, runners on first and second. I dunno who’s coming in.
Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.
Josh Ellis in
Anyone know anything about him? First I’ve heard of him, though submarine pitchers are fun to watch.
Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.
Some random guy I don't know on the Cubs
Singled up the middle and scored two… I think. Not 100%.
Either way, next guy flew out to right, half-inning over…
Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.
Hmmm...
Giants/A’s 4-0…. there’s a 9-9 game in Milwaukee I can turn to…

I met Heilman today after the game LOL He was actually very pleasant too :)
"AUGIE AUGIE AUGIE...OY OY OY!"
Did you really?
I heard Augie said hi to ya too… I should have hung out after the game with you guys.

He sure did :)
He would have stopped afterwards but had two busses full of Cubs (and Chad Tracy) on his tail so he bid us farewell but gave me the biggest smile as he was leaving :)
"AUGIE AUGIE AUGIE...OY OY OY!"
Tracy...
I think we’re gonna miss him this year…
but he had no place on this team.
I don't think so
I doubt he’ll be much more than a PH/fill-in player this year. We’ve got younger and/or better players for that role.
Key to the game: Score More
Like I said
He had no place on arizona… but I wish he was still a d-back. I think he could be a surprise for the cubs this year.
S'okay, I was about to switch over anyway :/

listening to a Dback rob a home run from a Cub.
OWAIT NO I DONT BECAUSE IM TRYING TO WATCH TV

Dude, we went fishing in Cabo.
Jordan Norberto's success has gone to his head.
Six straight balls to open his first appearance after his roster spot.
"We defy augury" -- Hamlet
Nice play by Ryal
Let us know why you got that spot on the roster, man.
"Do we hug?" "I think we're too manly."
Damn, that's really unfortunate
Crisp was injured Saturday while making a headfirst dive while trying to steal second base against San Francisco. He was hit on the hand by Giants second baseman Jose Uribe’s glove and was called out.

So
Looking through the thread, it doesn’t look like I’ve missed too much interesting.

Hey, it's a zero
He has looked a lot better in the past week or two, have to say.

Hey, you were mentioned
by me and another Pit member at the game when he came in.. You’re getting famous

Well
Time to shut down the Cubs and finish off the Cactus League with a walk-off win.

will be in Naples soon….
