D-Backs seeking trade for SP?
Nothing really new in this article until the last line where Rosenthal drops the line that AZ is seeking to trade for a #3. This is very interesting. I wonder how much merit there is to it. And if AZ is seeking a trade, who are we inquiring with? I wonder if we might be better off going after someone like Pedro (assuming he is ready to throw right away).

Interesting....
Augie Ojeda, Rusty Ryal and Chris Snyder for a #3 starter?
I keep trying to reset my password to "penis", but it keeps telling me "too short".
I think it might be a bit of the phantom DL
But, I’m not sure, but I think it was the senior beat writer at the local paper who said that he had spoken with a DBacks scout who said that they had no interest in Suppan and at that time he spoke with one of the local scouts who said they weren’t interested in Snyder and mentioned his contract. It was a while ago obviously. I’m sure that anyone trading for Suppan would get lots o’ money as well.
Also, Suppan
Is a massive fail…. still try again.

The question is...
who from our roster or farm system are you willing to give up? The talent we get back should be proportionate to the talent we let go.
And while Snyder, Ojeda and Ryal are all very nice role players, mixing them into a trade offer together will be tricky. I just don’t know if that brings back a legitamate #3 starter. Someone like Conor would probably have to be part of something like that, but then we’re stealing from Paul to pay Mary.
Paul/Mary, Peter/Paul… what’s the difference? :)

Keep in mind
Just how little catching there is out there. Like, it’s really bad.

Here are a couple ideas:
Matsuzaka: BoSox don’t like giving up extra arms, but they really are down on him and don’t have any other real injury risks in their rotation (Beckett being the only real exception).
Matt Harrison: the Rangers also have an abundance of SP and Harrison is someone who seems to have recovered, but whom they don’t have much confidence in.
Homer Bailey: when Chapman is ready to go, the Reds also will have too many SPs. They won’t give away Bailey, but his value is way lower than it was a few years ago… and I believe he’ll be pretty good.
Jonathan Sanchez: the Giants are probably too high on Sanchez to trade for him, but right now Bumgardner is in AAA b/c there isn’t enough room in their rotation.
Fausto Carmona: ran into bad luck last year and could be got at a discount right now (I think he’s pretty darn good still). The Indians aren’t trying to win this year anyway.
Other ideas?

NO!
I don’t want him. He’s too much fun to make fun of.

I certainly could dig Carmona
Especially moving to the NL.

Not available.
Plus super expensive.

I’d say Bailey is the one not available. Harang probably as well. They’re starting a draft choice as their 5th starter who will have never pitched anywhere but AFL.
Hmmmm....
maybe we’ll offer them Jeff Bailey for Homer Bailey, and they’ll get confused and say “yes”?

Granted,
Mike Leake was only selected as high as he was because he was going to be ready pretty much right away, even though he’s a #5, maybe a #4.

How is Aaron Harang expensive?
There is no way this team can pay 5 mil a year or whatever for a catcher that is going to play once every 5 days. Miggy is probably going to hit 20 home runs this year and hit .280. At times Synder seems like he can’t hit the ball out of his hands.
We are a mid market team we can’t afford to have depth!
Where did
that Snyder/Montero rant come from?
Harang, IF you could pry him away from the Reds, would be expensive because he’s a good starting pitcher. They don’t come cheap. There’s no way we get him for a song.

I don't see any reason for trading for another pitcher...
1. Dan Haren
2. Edwin Jackson
3. Ian Kennedy
4. Rodrigo Lopez
5. Billy Buckner
Looks like a solid rotation already to me. I wouldn’t totally hate it if we signed Pedro Martinez, but why not just work with what we already have? And if we go out and get another starting pitcher, what do you do when if Webb comes back? I just don’t see any way that bringing in another pitcher makes sense…
What? Rodrigo Lopez has been pitching in the major leagues for 10 years, and Billy Buckner was perfectly serviceable as a 5th starter for us last year. You have a point about Ian Kennedy, but I think he’s going to surprise a lot of people this year. Have a little faith, man!
"Perfectly Serviceable"
Needs to be taken with perspective, and with a 1st half/2nd half season split.

Ummmm,
I think we’re only worried about Buckner because of his Spring. Lopez is a season vet who looks right and Kennedy looked downright disgustingly good in ST.

I have an idea...
Why don’t we SCRAP the trade idea and bring up Kris Benson as our #5? What can it hurt?
"AUGIE AUGIE AUGIE...OY OY OY!"
Quite a bit, really
I don’t have much faith in Benson as a pitcher. I’m willing to be proven wrong, but let’s let him prove his case in Reno, rather than in Phoenix.
"Do we hug?" "I think we're too manly."
Precisely.

True...
Although he may end up surprising the organization and doing well enough to come up. We’ll see what does transpire
"AUGIE AUGIE AUGIE...OY OY OY!"
And if he does,
then we won’t trade for a starter.
But I don’t have much faith in him, either.

Benson
Even I am iffy on him, but I have a feeling he’ll be the next one up if Rodrigo doesn’t pan out or if Webb doesn’t return
