Kevin Towers considering Hoffman
Nick Piecoro at azcentral.com has the following quote from GM Kevin Towers: "I think you’d be nuts if you didn’t at least consider somebody like Trevor Hoffman."

I think you'd be nuts to consider Hoffman
Anything but a minor league deal with an invite to spring training is crazy.
I have two rules:
no Hoffman and no Dotel.
Charlie Hough could be in our rotation next year; I don’t care but please no Hoffman and no Dotel.

What's with your hatred of Dotel?
He’s a solid reliever… and we might be able to flip him to a desperate team like the Pirates did to the Dodgers last year.
Leads/ties blown by the Diamondbacks bullpen in '10: 41
Our FO isn't dumb
If the price isn’t right, we won’t sign him. But blanketly saying that we shouldn’t sign him for no real reason when he’s an effective reliever makes little sense as well.

Apparently there's an epilepsy warning on this video. But it's so incredibly cool.

Not hate,
just a waste of cash and the reaction is strong because Hall seemed to say last year that this was the “fix the bullpen” move. He walks a lot and seems to have more rough ability than command.

The one thing that intrigues me about Hoffman
Is the possibility of IPK and Hudson perfecting their already-good change-ups under the tutelage of the guy who threw the best one in recent memory.
But that’s it. He’s a mop-up guy at this point in his career.

I wonder
if Tony Gwynn Sr. is available, too. Let’s get the Old Padres Gang back together!
That was a rhetorical question. I don't really care what you say.
Sure, "consider".
But the guy’s done as a good reliever.
Again, KT needs to remember that he’s not GMing at Petco anymore.
Mr. Science Boy
Sign him
Hoffman comes in to AZ, pitches well or poorly, retires, is inducted into the HOF wearing Sedona Red!
But seriously
Why not give him a look?
2.67 ERA since June 3rd?
Chance that he stays with Towers as a pitching coach?
“Veteran presence” and the possibility of a calm voice in the pen?
I see nothing wrong with looking.

Hoffman the pitching coach
Just dreaming of a scenario where Towers and Hoffman are so tight that Hoff retires after the 2011 season (a season in which he notches 43 Saves for the NL Champion Diamondbacks) and returns to AZ as the new pitching coach.
I have no idea whether he’d be a good coach, anyways. :p

How about instead
we sign the guy who had an ERA of 2.41 in 37 IP since June 10th?
Oh, wait, we already have him
Yeah...
That guy with the 7.5 K/9 Rate and 3.7 BB/9 rate…. he’s super good.
