Fixing the dbacks: An Offseason Plan

It appears the Diamondbacks will try to contend next season, but to do so they will need to make some changes. We need to fill the hole in left field/first base (fixing one is simple as plugging in brandon allen). They need to fill a hole in the starting rotation, and they need to fix the bullpen. One option to fill these holes is through free agency. We have the 3 and 7 pick in next year's draft, but the 7th pick is not protected, so signing a type A free agent would be bad good idea(unless we're signing a carl crawford, jason werth, or cliff lee)

Honestly, looking at this list, the best options for filling the hole in left field/first base are probably Carlos Pena, Adam Dunn, Derrek Lee, Xavier Nady, Johnny Damon, Aubrey Huff, or Johnny Gomes. I can't think of any first basemen that are likely to be moved besides Prince Fielder or James Loney. I like the idea of signing johnny gomes, xavier nady, johnny damon, or if we can pry him away from the giants, aubrey huff. If we're going to stick Brandon Allen in left field, I like the idea of bringing back adam dunn to chase field, or signing carlos pena.

This list is pretty barren when it comes to starting pitching, and the guy i like best is a type A free agent(pavano) I think Jake Westbrook would be an interesting name, as would Brad Penny and Hiroki Kuroda.  Resigning brandon webb might not be that bad of an option. exploring a trade is probably the best idea, getting a guy like Matt Garza from the Rays..

Out of this list of relievers, the names I like best are Jon Rauch, Jesse Crain, and Joaqin Benoit. Fixing our bullpen is probably going to take some combination of free agency and trades.

So basically, I'm just interested in reading about which free agents the snakepit collective thinks we should go after. I think the dbacks need to fix that barren hole in left field, we need to get some starting pitching, and we need to fix the bullpen, all while retaining most of our prospects and retaining our number 7 picks. tough order to fill.
