Around SBN: My First Fight: Diego Sanchez

A nice article by Jerry Crasnick about Webb getting ready for next season. I liked the quote towards the end: "If we don't make the playoffs and I'm not a Cy Young candidate, I'll be disappointed."

He talks a little bit about a contract for next season, too- that's not as cheering, but nothing we can do but wait and see.

"If everything doesn't go perfectly I'm disappointed"

I get the distinct feeling everyone feels that way, Brandon.

Seriously though, I hate when injury ends the career of someone as talented as Brandon Webb, much as I hate him in our division.

On our side of the continental divide, we’re bringing back…Jeff Francis! oooooooooOOooOooo

Realistically

recovering from such an arm injury is going to take some real time. I don’t fully expect him to be ‘in the groove,’ so to speak, until July. I hope I’m wrong, but he’s a precision pitcher, and that type of precision, based as much on muscle memory as anything else, takes time. On the other hand, if I’m wrong, he’ll be a bear to contend with like he usually is. I prefer that scenario, but again, realistically, I think it’s going to take some time.

Yeah....

of all the ways to describe him, I would NOT refer to him as a “precision pitcher”.

I think part of the problem is that we don’t know what kind of arm injury he even had to begin with. That makes things more tenuous. He might be a heck of a lot better than we expect, or a heck of a lot worse. It’s not lot he had Tommy John surgery or something where there’s a proven recovery track.

Obviously

Webb wouldn’t say otherwise but it seems as if it is all good to go! If other pitchers could pitch through the injury when it was “worse” he should be safe.

I was just at Chase on a slaes tour and

the account executive told me Webb has been there working out @ chase almost everyday lately and that he was looking good. I grabed the guy by the neck, slammed him up against a trophy display and lifted him about 6 inches off the ground using only 35% of my right arm biscept muscle and calmly told him I better not see any pics of Webb doing any type of Marlin fishing, wife tossing or anything else that could jeapordize the progress he has made on his shoulder or the upcoming season.

I laugh until my head comes off.

Do you feel

your response was effective in discouraging such behavior?

In response

The DBacks have now hired Ed to abuse executives so that Brandon Webb doesn’t have to.

I will be more than happy

To take over Webb’s marlin fishing duties, as necessary. They know where to find me…
