Q+A With Josh Byrnes v2.0
I'm pleased to report that, following up on last year's interview with D-backs GM Josh Byrnes, we'll hopefully be repeating the event next week. Already got plenty of topics to cover - quite a lot has happened since our last talk! - but please feel free to submit your questions, and I'll try to squeeze as many of them in.

Dear Josh
Are there any trades from the last 2 seasons you wish you could “do over?” (e.g. David Eckstein)
Dear Josh
4 hours is much too long for a baseball game. Is there anything you can do to speed things up, or does the responsibility for game speed rest on the shoulders of the league?
Dearest Joshkins
Why has our offense been so anemic the last 2 seasons, and what are you doing to remedy the problem in 2010?
Dear Josh
Why did you trade for another Scott Boras client during the offseason? I thought the organization had a near-zero tolerance policy for Boras (Drew notwithstanding).
Dear Josh
When will we see an “All You Can Drink” section at Chase Field, brought to you by Miller Lite?
Dear venomfan,
Have you learned your comment-padding ways from ’Skins? ;)

Hey, at least they are questions
Even if I’m not sure an “All You Can Drink” section falls quite within JB’s remit… :-)

A few questions (many of which, I suspect, Byrnes wouldn't touch):
We know that the team has met its preseason cap for spending. Assuming that we are still in contention at the All Star break, how much money would the team be able to spend to add an arm or bat?
Does the team still have the same basic aversion to incentive laden deals?
It seems that at least two of the Free Agents we pulled in this year (Kelly Johnson and Adam LaRoche) were willing to come to Arizona for less on a one year deal because Arizona is such a good hitter’s park. Is this a strategy the F.O. is hoping to utilize going forward (getting in FA’s for one year at a discount b/c of the hitting friendly nature of Chase)?
I can’t remember a season where four of the five teams in the NL West had a legitimate shot at the division title. How does that influence the team’s strategy heading into the season?
How long a “leash” does the team have Chris Young on before they turn to Parra?

Good questions
I think the FO doesn’t have an aversion to incentive laden deals, as much as they do to player that require such deals.
They want to know what they’re getting out of a player when they sign him, which is why they signed Garland last year and let Unit go, and why they traded Max for Jackson.
How long a "leash" does the team have Chris Young on before they turn to Parra?

Josh Byrnes Q1
The hiring of AJ Hinch as Manager was a bit of a surprise to some of us that follow the organization closely. The reason being that Hinch was rumored to be a very important and key member of the DBacks front office. Was this something that AJ Hinch had aspired to do? And, we know the volatility of an MLB Manager position, is there a risk in giving him this position and possibly losing a top front office guy?
