Eric Byrnes (probably) to be released within 24 hrs
Two people in the Diamondbacks front office tell 3TV's Brad Cesmat that outfielder Eric Byrnes will be paid $11 million dollars in the buyout that should happen in the next 24hrs.
That came off AZfamily.com - and there was semi-confirmation of the move from a post on Nick Piecoro's Twitter feed, in which he says "Source says they’re leaning toward releasing Eric Byrnes." It's still not absolutely certain as yet, however. The move is necessary to make room on the 40-man roster for new arrival Adam LaRoche.

I've got a story ready to go on this
but I’m not going to post it until we hear from a few more reliable sources…

It's saved in drafts
I’ll be around tonight, I can post if we get word. If it’s tomorrow, can you see my drafts and publish them, or are they limited to me?

I went and edited someone else's draft
so you should be able to go ahead and publish mine tomorrow morning (if we wait that long). You will definitely be awake before I will. ;)

Yeah, I can see it
Didn’t realize Author was a drop-down menu. When are you going to publish that story on Brandon Webb’s option getting exercised? :-)

Ehhhh, when I get around to it ;)
Maybe when soco posts his game recap from 4/11/09.
That probably happened when I started in Safari then moved to Firefox to finish it.

Woah
woah, now hold on a second. I wrote my recap, I’m no ’Skins. The other one is just an unused draft, of which I have others.
An early departure? What are the chances of that? If this was a movie, there wouldn't be an early departure.
It happens a lot
See I wrote my Webb story too. :)

I do it too
Though I usually go back and delete my drafts after a while.

Don't like it
Can we not “send down” someone with options right now? Wait to see how Byrnes does on ST before we send him off?
Our CF situation reminds me of a Simpson’s quote:
“After this keg (Young) and the next keg (Parra) we’ve only got one keg left (Brynes)!”

With
only a little more than a month to go until Spring Training, I’d agree that it seems a little foolish to get rid of him without being certain he couldn’t be useful this year. On the other hand, he’s had 2 years to already prove this.
Either way, it’ll be nice to finally have some closure by (at latest) the end of the year.
An early departure? What are the chances of that? If this was a movie, there wouldn't be an early departure.
Give him to the Mets
As a fill-in replacement for Carlos Beltran?

It's not the 25-man roster we're doing this for
It’s the 40-man roster that we need space for. It’s full and we need another spot to add LrRoche to that.

Well.......
If it’s exactly eleven million, we save 2/3 of a million bucks. Surprising that we get that.

Brian Sabean didn’t rule out signing a catcher, though he said that he’s content to wait for "somebody left without a place to go."
He never has to wait too long, either.

Another nail in the coffin
Sports 620 KTAR’s John Gambadoro reports the Diamondbacks are currently working to finalize the release of Byrnes.

well exactly how much time does
he have to spend in the halfway house for overpriced outfielders before he’s released back into society?
I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....
Nick Piecoro...
Just posted on his Twitter that they designated Eric Byrnes for assignment a few minutes ago…

The NY Mets just traded for Gary Mathews Jr. I’m not sure where things stand with Byrnes (is he an unrestricted FA now or still DFA?). Either way, that trade probably signals any hope of us getting something for Byrnes.

He's been officially released now.
We’re getting nothing. A little surprising to me, but not totally unexpected with Byrnes’ NTC.
