Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

An interesting article on Chris Young, basically suggesting that Chris Young has been very unlucky. Worth a read.

On the other hand

The hellacious infield fly percentage probably contributes towards his low BABIP, as those balls in play are most unlikely to do anything but become outs. And while he keeps swinging at pitches way outside the zone – like that awful strikeout last night – he’s not going to get the benefit of any pitch even close to the mark. When you’re ranked #168 of 169 for BA, you need to make your own luck…

Is CY a Guess Hitter?

If he is a guess hitter (and a bad guesser), that would account for the inordinate number of taken strikes.

He sure looked it last night late in the game taking a fastball for called strike three. He had no idea a fastball was coming and no chance to pull the trigger.

IN GOD WE TRUST, ALL OTHERS BRING NUMBERS

YOUNG – 0 for 4… Why is he out there each night when he will not dive for a ball or crash a fence for a fly? Cleanest uniform in the Majors.

Upton no better. Some one teach him how to field.

upton

young is having a lousy defensive season and has definitely regressed from last season.
upton, on the other hand, is ranked the #2 RF in the NL (using UZR, one of the best defensive metrics out there) and #3 in all of baseball.

Yeah.

Maybe Young should dive for a ball, like Upton did the other day. (Resulting in an Ian Stewart bloop double)
