Gameday Thread, #71: 6/23 vs Rangers
Texas Rangers at Arizona Diamondbacks, Jun 23, 2009 9:40 PM EDT
|
|
It's convenient that Jim goes AWL (no, not a typo) right as I get back from the Power Soccer National Championships. So, this won't be a terribly good preview since I know very little of what's been going on these past 5 days! Everybody please be sure to chip in your thoughts in the thread.
Max Scherzer's on the hill for the Diamondbacks as they try to recover from a sweep at the hands of the Seattle Mariners. Two 12-run games against the Royals and then three consecutive days with 3 or fewer runs scored is, well, it's the very picture of how the team has performed all season long. Scherzer has won his last two starts to improve his record to 4-4 and lower his ERA. It's quite possible that 3 runs could get the win - as long as the bullpen holds up...
What do we know about Rangers' starter Matt Harrison? Well at first glance, he has the same record as and a higher ERA than Scherzer. He seems to only be able to go 5 innings per game (though he had two consecutive complete games in May) and allows plenty of baserunners, if Arizona can take advantage. Texas is riding a losing streak with poor offense as well, but they are still six games over .500 and one game over Anaheim to lead the AL West.
Texas has won 7 of the last 8 matchups against Arizona, but for both teams, this feels like a must-win game. Who will come out on top? Tune in to find out...
As a follow-up to dahlian's point about Miguel Montero's playing time, catcher Chris Snyder has been placed on the disabled list. Luke Carlin was called up, and Conor Jackson was moved to the 60-day DL. Chris Young was a last-minute scratch from the lineup, and might also be headed to the disabled list. Is DbacksSkins on the recap tonight, or would anybody else like to take a crack at it?
Lineup
- Felipe Lopez - 2B
- Stephen Drew - SS
- Justin Upton - RF
- Mark Reynolds - 1B
- Gerardo Parra - CF
- Miguel Montero - C
- Eric Byrnes - LF
- Ryan Roberts - 3B
- Max Scherzer - P

Gld to see an early lead
Now all we need is a complete game from Max.
"Scott, if your life had a face, I would punch it. I would punch your life in the face."
Which do you think is more likely?
A CG from Max or the bullpen holding his lead? (If he leaves with one..)

The rule...
When worn on a person, or attached to a vehicle, etc, the union (the blue part) is always supposed to be the most forward part. This comes from the military as they used to carry actual flags into battle, and it symbolizes moving forward as opposed to retreat. Look at a soldier’s sleeve, you’ll see it correctly there.

False.
That only applies to members of the armed forces. It’s the same reason the 101st Airborne were allowed to wear their patches on the opposite side. (So the eagle would be advancing, never retreating)
The rule on people is open to interpretation, as the field is supposed to be “closest to your heart”. The only hard and fast rule is on the orientation of the flag on the left sleeve

Well, that,
and he removed the lens caps immediately after.
I think every president/presidential candidate over the past 50 years has had a picture taken of them like that, to be used by their political opponents.
I almost feel like it would be somewhat disrespectful for the C-In-C to consider himself a member of the military, unless he were an honest to God veteran. (Bush’s ANG service doesn’t count) Not to mention unpatriotic — the nation has a long and proud history of military submission to civilian command, from the very beginning. (Which is also what makes Seven Days In May so chilling!)
Wait, what were we discussing again? I was listening to myself talk….

Except that he is the C-In-C. While technically not part of the military, he is in charge of it. And I’d like to think he isn’t retreating at any point.

Are you kidding? I think the hot weather is one of the things I miss the most.
Even though it does get pretty hot and humid around here, I hate how cold it gets in the winter. We had the worst winter storm this year. I cannot even begin to explain it. We were out of power for at least a week, with freezing cold weather, food shortage, fuel shortage, ugh….that is just the beginning. You would just have to be there to understand the magnitude of it. It was horrible and I don’t ever want to be a part of that again, EVER!

Nissan
Has a problem with the side airbags. Figures. I finally get a car with side airbags and they were apparentlyl boozing it up in the factory during the installation.
The mighty Sentra!
No, it isn’t a top of the line Nissan, but they sure have upgraded the Sentra from what it used to be. Nice-looking little car and roomy too. My favorite part is the bluetooth hands-free phone system (and I can plug in my iPod). Of course when you’re talking to someone it sounds like they are curled up nside the glove box, but whatever.
Ah.
I test drove a Sentra before I got Ruby, but it was a ‘97. Couldn’t stand the way the engine felt like it was powered by hamster wheels.
