Trade Qualls?

Was listening to KTAR on the way home last night & the on air guy mentioned that the players with the most trade value are:

1) Qualls

2) Davis

I somewhat agree with this, although teams like the Cubs desperately need a second baseman who can hit -- Lopez has high value, due to his production and his cost.  I'd add him to the list as well.

Davis and Lopez are gone for sure, Garland is a likely candidate, and Montero and Qualls aren't too far behind.  Then...we need a thorough scrubbing of the remaining players and "take out the trash."  Clark will be the first one cut, then Byrnes, then Tracy.  Haren has a better batting average than those 3 clowns.

The KTAR guy also said

that the DBacks don’t have much need for a closer anymore. He’s right.

He also said we will get more for these players if we trade them early. Again, he’s right.

That doesn't make any sense

Why would they profit more if they trade now rather than at the end of July?

It's a balance

Teams will, in theory, be willing to trade more when they’re getting more service time- a pitcher for three and a half months is worth more than a pitcher for two. On the other hand, it’s possible that if a team has to wait until the deadline, after other teams have already made moves, they’ll offer more out of desperation. But there’ll probably be more teams selling then.

Tighter market right now

than at the trade deadline. Less supply, more demand, since most of the contenders and pretenders haven’t quite been separated yet.

Qualls can go. He is a good guy yeah but we don’t have a need for a closer.

If I see one more Eric Byrnes 'flip throw' I will shoot myself a whole bunch of times.

I would rather watch Eric Byrnes do backward flip-throw pitches on the mound than watch most of our bullpen even getting warmed up to come in the game.

I would also suggest bringing Mark Grace back out as a reliever

he’d be just as effective as any and all members of Dback “bullpen”……
What a wonderful G.M. we have to effectively put together such a team of underachievers and hacks. The former director of player “development” is now the manager, what a wonderful job of developing and reading talent…….this reads like a Greek Comedy…. And this guy runs part of a multi-million dollar “business”….LOL !
WIth the exception of Justin Upton, who was pretty much a no-brainer and developed himself, how many players have the Dbacks drafted and “developed” that have stuck around for more than 1 year?

by venomfan on Jun 25, 2009 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Choking again this year?

White Sox won the division last year in a one game play-off, cowboy. And most of the time the Sox are simply average. I don’t think the choke factor plays in to that formula….but hey, your juvenile and sorry attempt at a comeback that hurts is humorous…Don’t stop….continue, please ! ! LOL

Spelling? LOL

Aside from an occasional typo — what was misspelled? What an arbitrary comment….interesting…..but my favorite part of your post was
“And you are clearly projecting”….LOL. A projection within an accusation of projecting, you lil venom fan, you reek of hypocrisy….but again, continue…..don’t stop….please.
And talk about choking, you’re from San Diego ! ! LOL !

Is that you in Pigskin 621 AD?

“your juvenile” is both misspelled and a projection. When do you turn 21?

by venomfan on Jun 25, 2009 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Let me share the English language with you ! ! !

ya see, venom fan, if you read the message….“your juvenile and sorry attempt” LOL ! The term is used as an adjective separated by a preposition to describe your attempt. And further, it is not a projection but an accusation…..
Did you really just make yourself look that foolish?
And moreover, I hope you don’t have to take the AIMS Test.
Wow, you’re good. Keep going so the rest of us can learn from you.

Wow

I know the argument is over, but I feel inclined to inform you that you’re a dick. The “keep going, this is so interesting!” line just makes you seem pretentious. Just so you’re aware in case you, like most normal people, have yet to realize what things, when said, make you sound like a tool, that is near the top of the list.

and as for "projecting".....

the White Sox all time record is somewhere around 8,461 – 8,255 since April 2009…..looks pretty average to me, Sparky.
And yes, they did in fact win the division last year in a one game playoff. That’s fact as well lil venom fan And the World Series in ’05. What is this “choke” you speak of?

I understand and have observed that yes, indeed, you are the divine hammer. Further, you run a great site. But sometimes it seems posters take things very personal, and would prefer a “Disney”-like approach. These are over-paid millionaires who we come together to discuss— most couldn’t care less.

perhaps I should have included the terms "consistently productive", kept around more than a year

and have been “productive”?
Snyder? Really? Drew sturggling something AWEFUL this year, although Hoytsstash sees him as a hopeful….Montero??? Are you SERIOUS? lol. Tony Pena? Wow….let’s not bang the gong so proudly Jim. Really, cmon. And Conor Jackson….jury is out on that guy. Who knows.
Jackson and Drew (who by the way wasn’t really “developed” by the DBacks whatsoever, Jim) are two hopefuls…..and I stress “hopefuls”.
And let us not brag about the guys our brilliant front office let-go. That was pretty much the whole point of my post, if you remember.

Well, if you're going to keep moving the goalposts...

And also have a blinkered, short-term view based on numbers from less than half a season.

Snyder. Career OPS = .737. Average NL catcher this year = .738
Drew. Career OPS = .772, Average NL SS = .708.
Montero. His fourth season in the majors, but still only 25. Best years ahead of him.
Pena. Career ERA+ = 116
Conor Jackson: Arguably the best hitter on the team last year, with an OPS+ of 110 the past two seasons. Not consistent enough? Or not productive enough?
And then there’s Webb (8th-round pick) and Reynolds (16th round) too.
Chad Tracy: Career OPS+ of 100, in about 2,200 at-bats. Do you blame the front-office for his knee breaking down too?

Even the players who left all ‘stuck around for more than 1 year’ – Hairston was with the team for 3.5 seasons. I’m just not really sure what your point was here.
