Gameday Thread, #67: 6/18 vs. Royals
Arizona Diamondbacks at Kansas City Royals, Jun 18, 2009 8:10 PM EDT
|
|
Another day, another serious bout of packing, another near first pitch Gameday Thread. Feeling a good deal more optimistic today than I was at this time yesterday, when it looked like we'd probably be turning to Dan Haren to avoid the sweep. However, we got to Greinke, seriously got to the Royals bullpen, and could even cope with a Vasquez meltdown in the ninth, without too much trouble. So, instead, we turn to Dan Haren to give us a series win, and the way he has pitched of late, we should certainly be in with a chance.
Before I get to the lineup, if you're in the area of Tempe Marketplace tomorrow, and have a couple of hours to kill, you might want to head over for the Fox Sports Arizona Shake, Rattle and Vote event, designed to stuff the All-Star ballot-boxes with votes for Upton, Reynolds, etc. Cast 100 or more ballots and you get entered into raffle prize drawings throughout the evening, where you can win a lot of autographed D-backs merchandise:
Stephen Drew autographed jersey
Mark Reynolds autographed bat
Justin Upton autographed bat
Justin Upton game used bat
Dan Haren autographed ball
Chris Snyder autographed ball
Doug Davis autographed ball
Jon Rauch autographed ball
or tickets to each game in the next home stand – Rangers & Angels
They'll be showing the game on the big screen, and there will be the usual Miller drink specials at Cadillac Ranch, San Felipe’s and Dave & Busters, coupons for a free quesadilla at Maria Maria, a post-game concert by the intriguingly-named Tractor Pull Divas and the post-game show will be broadcast from there as well.
Lineup
- Felipe Lopez
- Stephen Drew SS
- Justin Upton RF
- Mark Reynolds 1B
- Gerardo Parra LF
- Chris Young CF
- Miguel Montero DH
- Chris Snyder C
- Augie Ojeda 3B + Dan Haren P

Seems like the Royals defense already is...
Two errors already, shame Parra couldn’t get the man in from third with one out, but the good guys take the lead. Up to Young now…

Yep
Any time you get five outs in an inning, you should really be looking to take better advantage. But one run is better than none…

Ok...
Yahoo! Gameday screwing up. Still two out, now it’s saying Stephen Drew is back at the plate. Maybe I should just go watch the game…

Who's catching today?
Yahoo! has Montero catching and Byrnes as DH, but the AZLineupCard Twitter feed has Snyder catching and Montero DH-ing…
"Win, or die" -- Marquise de Merteuil
Oh wait
Now it says he flew out, Bloomquist came up for two pitches and now DeJesus is up again. I wish I had the option to just go and watch, but alas not here in Orlando. Unfortunately MLB network shows their games on Thursday so I won’t even get updates for their good nightly programming.
What happened?
Just logged in to Gameday and I see that Upton was out at home? Did he try to steal home and fail or was it just a wild pitch that he failed to get in on. Gameday is not specific.
Pitch got away
from the catcher, twenty feet or so up the first base side, and Upton went for it. I think he snuck his hand in there, but it was an awkward slide and they called him out.

all to left
Looks like DeJesus was busy that inning. Catching all three fly balls for all three outs.
Nice double play
Good recovery by Augie.

TV says
Webb’s scheduled session for tomorrow is cancelled, due to soreness. Mark and Daron see it as a very ominous sign. Havent come out and said it, but the vibe I get is he’s not pitching this year.

Better have him healthy for 2010, than half-cocked in an effort to add a few more wins in 2009.

If that's the choice
…then obviously.
Today, the bigger concern may be if he’ll ever be an effective, or CYA caliber, pitcher again. It’s already been nine months since he pitched well. That’s a long time, and may suggest he has a serious problem.

Good point
Although if you want to trade him in the offseason (just a possibility), he’d need to get some good starts under his belt this season.

2-0
Nice RBI single from Drew.
"Scott, if your life had a face, I would punch it. I would punch your life in the face."
Nice slide, Drew
Way to hustle into third, and we’ve got runners at the corners, one out.
"Scott, if your life had a face, I would punch it. I would punch your life in the face."
Parra!
Triple! 4-0!
That helps make up for it not working out last time.
"Scott, if your life had a face, I would punch it. I would punch your life in the face."
And a single for Young
Brings in Parra. 5-0.
I like this team.
"Scott, if your life had a face, I would punch it. I would punch your life in the face."

Hey everyone
It’s been awhile… anyway, quick question: does anyone here have MLB.tv? I’m considering getting it for the rest of the season… also, can anyone clarify the blackout rules for me? Is it I can’t watch home games or any games for a team in my area (Dbax = blacked out in Vegas)? Thanks everyone. :)
I haven't had MLB.tv in awhile
but I can tell you my experiences from the past.
First, make good use during the trial period to make sure you have good connections and internet speed.
Blackouts. Basically you can watch games that are “in” your market. Basically if you live in Seattle you can watch the Dbacks except when they go to Seattle to play the Mariners. I’m not sure about Vegas. I remember finding a blackout list with all the zipcodes that black out your team, but that may take some searching.
Overall I really liked MLB.tv and just couldn’t afford it (both money and staying up till 1am to watch). It looks to have improved both in quality of video and whether to watch home or away broadcast. Totally give it a try. I think they give a 5 day trial, and you may even get a free trial for Sports Illustrated too. Just watch out, if you don’t want it anymore, you have to call to cancel because otherwise they automatically continue to bill your credit card.
List of blackouts
here’s the page where you can check what is blacked out. Just enter the zip in the one section
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/subscriptions/index.jsp?affiliateId=MLBTVREDIR#blackout
Looks like vegas is screwed
All these teams listed,
San Diego Padres
Oakland Athletics
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Arizona Diamondbacks
Los Angeles Dodgers
San Francisco Giants
Could be a shot in the dark. You can always try listing your hometown as somewhere obscure, but I think it hinges on your billing address.
No
It checks IP and cookies and and and… it’s pretty extensive. It’s pretty dumb, as we only get Angel and Dodger games here… just to clarify, if I had MLB.tv, could I watch today’s game in Kansas City?
It's one of those things
Still stuck in the 1950’s. They were supposed to be sorting it out, but until they do, they are losing a LOT of sales. I’d contemplate mlb.tv, but not when I’m blacked out of seeing all the D-backs games.

ALL LIVE MLB.TV games will be blacked out in each applicable Club’s home television territory (except for certain home television territories for which MLB.com may offer in-market subscription services) or in Japan.
