Whitesell back to minors or keep him up?

I have been very disapointed in the play of Whitesell. He doesn't look comfortable in the field or at the plate. 1 hit in 15 AB while looking bad in the box. His swing seems to be more like a golf swing than a baseball swing. He has also come up empty in some big at bats with runners in  scoring possition. I think he could have a decent future with our team eventiually with some more seasoning in the minors. I would much rather see Tracey play at first and work his way out of the current slump for know. Then eventiually work Jackson back to first with Byrnes going back to left field. I feel that would be our best possible lineup at this time.

Welcome

to the Snakepit!!

I say keep Whitey up. He walks a lot, he’s got plus power, and he’s got nothing else to prove in AAA.

Yep

If we sent people down after 20 PA we would not be watching Upton right now. Tracy has done next to nothing in 100+ PA this year.

Josh has 5 walks and only two strikeouts, so unless you think the .060 BABIP can hold up, I’d keep him. Also, he got a hit with the bases loaded the other night, but Lopez f-ed it up.

As for Tracy

His OBP since the beginning of last year is .290, so the only thing he can give us at the moment is outs.

Whitesell is not a sell

I would keep him up and part ways with Tracy. Whitesell is already in his late twenties and has nothing left to prove in AAA. I’ve seen enough of Tracy that I think he’s already peaked years ago and two knees later. Whitesell has been disappointing so far in rbi situatuons but he has taken walks. Tracy is only good for striking out or popping up, kind of like Byrnes and Young.

Whitesell

has been incredibly unlucky so far. That’s not going to continue. Sooner or later, those balls in play are going to start dropping in for hits.

Welcome

I’d say it’s a little too early. He has had some good swings, and been somewhat unlucky – the hit total would be doubled, for example, if Lopez hadn’t got himself forced out at home plate on Saturday! His BABIP is also .067, and there’s no way that’s going to continue. I’d certainly give him until Tony Clark is ready to come of the “DL” [quotes used advisedly] and then re-assess our options. The problem is, it’s not as if any of the potential 1B are exactly tattooing the ball, or their names into the lineup…

I don’t think further seasoning would do any good. He’s 27, was the player of the year last year for the D-backs and was killing it in Triple A this year. Hopefully he turns out to be more Dustin Pedroia in this case and turns it around.

many of us were clamoring for Whitesell to get promoted and for TC to get sent out to pasture. It is MUCH too early to give up on Whitey. He’s facing a better class of pitching and I’m confident he’ll adapt. Hopefully it won’t take too long though.

Start Playing Tracy

Its so frustrating to see Tracy on the bench especially knowing he is probably one of our better hitters. Please bench Whitsell

With his whopping two hits in his time in the bigs,

Whitesell still has a higher OBP than Tracy — and Byrnes, and Jackson, and Young, and… — does. By like 20 points, if I’m not mistaken.

It's because of those 5 walks he has.

He might even have more than those 5 walks if he would stop trying to play golf on some of the pitchers pitches. He seems to swing at a lot of pitches that are almost in the dirt.

Then again,

he also sometimes takes strike three, on a full count, six inches off the plate. ::roll clip of last night’s game::

Yea I did see that one.....horrible

but we have been getting those all season.

Welcome

to the Snakepit!!

I would tend to disagree. With the exception of the first week or two of this season, Tracy hasn’t been “one of our best hitters” since 2005.

Concur.

Tracy has a combined 75 OPS+ this year and last. The only regulars that he has hit better than over that time have been Tony Clark, Augie Ojeda and Eric Byrnes.

Tony Clark, regular
