Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

A few surprises here- if you'd told me in November that Byrnes would be starting, I wouldn't have been too surprised, but over Upton?

Our starting squad for Opening Day:

Catcher: Chris Snyder
First base: Tony Clark
Second base: Felipe Lopez
Third base: Chad Tracy
Shortstop: Stephen Drew
Left field: Conor Jackson
Center field: Chris Young
Right field: Eric Byrnes
Pitcher: Brandon Webb

No Mark Reynolds either

Tracy gets the start, but no surprise there, since he has murdered Cook in his 33 at-bats so far, hitting .515/.579/.758 for a 1.337 OPS. This is exactly the kind of pitcher I’d expect Reynolds to be sitting against – especially with Webb on the mound and defense at a premium. One imagines that’s why Clark is at first too.

D-backs numbers vs. Cook

Elsewhere, I see the Royals-White Sox game for tomorrow has already been called off due to snow… Tee-hee!

Oh, I dunno

As I sit here at 8pm, in shorts and a T-shirt, with the back-door wide open, it strikes me as quite funny… :-) Of course, it’ll be seventh-level of hell hot here soon enough, and then all you Northerners can laugh at us!.

Well

It’s not like Tracy is Scott Rolen at third, especially with a bum knee.

And let’s not pretend Upton being benched is a matchup thing and has nothing to do with his struggles in spring training.

Tracy's knee should be healed

At least, that’s the theory.

"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

I like these moves even though I like to see the natural starting lineup when Im there

I don't

think Melvin believes in natural lineup. He’s more of an evolutionist.

What? neh-are you se-no! No! I hh I I don't even't know what you're sayinhow whatdoyou whatdoyou talking about you want me to go away? I I I I can't no! I can't I can't just leave I - ...you can't leave me!

The "mad scientist"

I never got that name… When Sut gave it to him, we got outscored by like 20. That’s more like high school science teacher

Most

high school chemistry teachers seem the mad scientist types. They’re always like, “hey look at what I can burn, oh check out this acid” and such.

Even with Clark/Tracy both in,

I’m not sure there’s enough LHBs to satisfy foulpole.

Where’s our L/S/L/L/L/L/L/L/Webb lineup???

but seriously....

this lineup doesnt make much sense to me. Upton needs to know that his manager is behind him…

not a big deal… i don’t mind bomel going with match ups… even on opening day.

YAY!

Clark, Byrnes, Jackson, Snyder, Drew, Tracy AND Webb?

If possible I think I just became even MORE excited about tomorrow. Too bad I still am not seeing Dougie this week. (We are going to THREE games, you would think ONE of them would be Davis but NO!)

Hmmm....

when you put it like that, it’s like Opening Day 2007 all over again.

Reynolds and Upton Out

Not a surprise, but I’m glad Melvin has had the guts to recognise that Upton (no matter his great potential we’ve been waiting to see for more than a year!!) is out of form. Reynolds’ absence is a disappointment – but understandable. Big Tony will have to step up. I’m looking forward to seeing Lopez’ defense to BW. At last the Season’s here!

A W is a Win!

Sort of ugly, but exciting!
Our pitching ace looked a lot like CC Sabathia today – none of his stuff working and poor location.
But our lumber was just better than theirs!
Both Pena and Qualls were solid – that calmed a few nerves, including my own!
