Phoenix a finalist for D-Backs' new spring home

Follow up on the ongoing story about Spring Training sites for the DBacks. Still say Tucson is the best stie..... Not much is known about the Phoenix site, either. A Gordon aide said it is located along Loop 101 east of Arizona 51, near the Reach 11 Recreation Area. But City Councilwoman Peggy Neely, who represents northeast Phoenix, said the site could be located in a much broader segment of the Loop 101 corridor, from Seventh Street to Scottsdale Road. I find this site odd as around 15 years ago the City of Phoenix tried to place an outdoor amphitheater around the 101 and 16th St. The local residents said NO WAY and it was quickly moved to Maryvale and is now known as Cricket Pavilion.
