Six Sites Considered for Dbacks' Spring Future
The Diamondbacks have submitted six request for proposals to various cities in the Phoenix area and are asking for a response in the next 30 days. Some of the options rumored are an East Mesa site with the Rockies by the convention center, Casa Grande, both the Gila River and Fort McDowell Indian communities.
As per Matt Williams' mini-interview during the MLB Network broadcast of the Diamondbacks' game a couple days ago, the Diamondbacks have talked to Scottsdale, but no word on whether they were sent a RFP.

the Diamondbacks have talked to Scottsdale, but no word on whether they were sent a RFP.
“A source said the Diamondbacks are looking at Gila River Indian Community land near Interstate 10 in Chandler, a potential three-team facility in Surprise, two locations in north Scottsdale and one in Casa Grande.”

But not
Tucson apparently, right?

From the article in the Republic
“This is still not a guarantee that we will leave Tucson,” Hall said, adding that the team wants to gather all the facts and consider its options. “We’re doing our due diligence and trying to be out front on this.”

Scottsdale would make sense
bring some more money into the team. The EV will be the primary revenue generator so it would be hard to make sense out of Casa Grande or Surprise.

I just don't see a lot
of sports fans from North Scottsdale.
wish they would find a way to make it work in Tucson.

But that's where the sponsors live...
…my friend. I am talking strictly from a revenue standpoint. If Discount Tire’s (for example since I know they all live in Troon) C level execs are up there then it is more likely for them to attend and put in $$.

IAWTC.
Beyond having a… err, personal interest, Dbacks fans everywhere should probably support the team sticking in Tucson for ST — it’ll keep Tucsonans interested in the Dbacks. If the team moves to somewhere in the Phx area, not only will there be a backlash in Tucson, but locals might become completely apathetic — try to find a Cardinals or Coyotes fan in Tucson. (Cardinals fan pre-Super Bowl, I mean — a.k.a. a Cardinals fan in Tucson circa next December)

Try to find a Coyotes fan in Phoenix
They’ll be gone in no time. What a train-wreck.

I bet they won't

It all depends on which investor buys them.
Not sure why you would bet anything on that. They haven’t paid rent in 7 months and the commissioner has even talked of them moving.

Do you have a link?
I haven’t heard any talk outside Canada’s version of Bickley mentioning it.

A link regarding which point?
The fact the team has been a financial wasteland?
The fact that Bettman mentioned it on TSN this past Summer and that is why he has to defend himself and the Coyotes every other day in the Winnipeg Free Press?
I don’t particularly care about the Coyotes, but they are the benchmark of failed sports franchises right now.

Sorry, not buying it at all.
I’ll take the word of people who know what they are talking about, the people who breathe hockey.
From the Blog author for the Yotes:
My beef with you is not that you write negatively about the Coyotes. I can handle that. It’s that you, or your paper, feel that every third day or so feel the need to practically regurgitate the same information over and over, with no real new information, but insisting that the team is in trouble. It is, its losing money, again, we get it. But when your grand solutions are contracting or moving the team to… wait for it… Canada. You quickly lose ground. Do things need to change for the Coyotes? Yes. Does that mean they have to relocate? No. Ottawa, Buffalo, Los Angeles, Nashville, et al. have had major financial problems recently. Any of those franchises moved? Nope. You had one solid article about the actual finances. Detailing how the actual finances are. That’s useful, thank you for that. Does that make up for basically using nameless sources and using your past articles as evidence to support your current one? No. Maybe that’s just how the game is played nowadays. If so, that’s still no excuse. This one’s for you.

Um, ok.
I was never as fired up about this as you seem to be. The Coyotes are having huge financial problems. This is not a secret. There has been talk of them moving due to the fact they can’t pay rent. This is also not a secret.
Not sure what you aren’t “buying”. I mentioned nothing beyond that the team is in financial trouble, it looks like they might move and that Bettman did mention potential out of town investors on TSN last summer. Get a subscription to the Street and Smith Sports Business Journal. I certainly hope your only sources of sports information are not from blogs.

No, but unlike you
the blog author has links to relevant stories and claims.

I already asked you to clarify which link you wanted
There are hundreds of stories regarding the financial ruin of the Coyotes, so if you can be more specific then it would help me narrow my search. I am not saying I have inside information that they are moving. I will reiterate it for a third time: the Coyotes are in financial problems; the team has not paid rent for 7 months; the NHL is fielding offers from out of town investors. These are not closeted facts. Hell, I wish they were successful and would stay.
Again, you are entirely too fired up about this topic on a baseball board. I did not intend to strike a fire in you regarding this. I have no doubt you know more about hockey than I do.

I already offered to
take it to the Yotes blog. see the post right under this one.
I never denied they weren’t having serious issues. All I say is the rumors of their death are greatly exaggerated, end of line.

I think there have
been varying levels of miscommunication during this discourse. I do apologize if i struck a chord with you on this subject. I have and always will wish the Coyotes the best of luck as I never like seeing a business fail.
I wish you continued success as a fan of the Yotes and look forward to future dialogues with you in the upcoming season.

no worries,
I get to wrapped up in following sports at times, so apologies from my part in this too.

My former quote
From Aristotle: The sign of an educated man is one who can entertain a thought against his own without accepting it.
That isn’t verbatim as I don’t feel the need to look it up, but I feel it is relevant in our discussion.

I don't see it happening in Surprise
First off, a three team facility doesn’t make much sense to me. Two teams, great, you’ve got games all the time as they swap who gets to play at home that day, but three?
Besides, Surprise already has more traffic coming this way then it’s designed to deal with. That’s partially Sun City’s fault, though.
