Oeltjen signs with Brewers, hearts across Arizona destroyed
As per Steve Gilbert's Twitter, Trent Oeltjen has inked a Minor League deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. Even though it's disappointing to see him go, I'm glad he finally made an impression in the Majors after spending so long in the Minor League system. He finished his "career" with Arizona batting .250/.457/.707, but I'll always remember his tenure for his first game against Pittsburgh... bravo, Trent, and thanks for the services.

Bye Bye Trent :(
I will miss him but glad I had not only the opportunity to see him play many times but also to meet him. He is a very classy guy and just an all-around gentleman. He will be missed here
"AUGIE AUGIE AUGIE...OY OY OY!"
The Brewers
Where a lot of (varyingly) beloved ex-Diamondbacks pass through after leaving us, one way or another. See also Craig Counsell, Felipe Lopez, Jorge Julio, Damian Miller, Elmer Dessens, Chris Capuano, Lyle Overbay, Chad Moeller, Johnny Estrada, Junior Spivey, Rick Helling and Jorge de la Rosa, all in the past five years. Feels like a lot, though maybe it just seems that way.

have a kid in my class that hunts with Damian Miller
says he’s a GREAT guy

so what can we expect out of Oeltjen?
If he makes the team, that is. I think DM is trying to stockpile OF at Nashville again for no particular reason, but I’m curious.
he has good speed for a guy his age
a solid citizen type, who hit everything when he first came up, then they started throwing breaking balls to him and it was over. Decent arm, good glove. If he could make more consistent contact, he could easily be a 4th outfielder/defensive replacement du juor.
As an added bonus, per those of the feminine persuasion he’s freaking adorable and his voice causes shudders of pleasure when coupled with his smile. He’s a number one pick without question in the hot panty league.
I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....
well, I guess someone's got to replace JJ Hardy
The Brewers have a thing for both 4th outfielders and Australians, so this signing really shouldn’t have surprised me at all. They also probably saw a need to relieve their Cute White Guy deficit; Hardy’s gone, Counsell probably is too (and is too old at this point anyway for anything other than legacy squee) and there isn’t anything coming up through the minors to fill in as far as I know. I’m the wrong person to ask.
But.
If DD goes to the Brew Crew, then at least you have a reason to pay attention to Milwaukee, right?

BUT I LOVE YOU PEOPLE.
Milwaukee is cold, and I want my boys here.
Our team hotness ratio is in danger, Emily. DANGER.
Give me a second, I can bring this back to Trent Oeltjen.
as soon as I heard about this...
I knew I had to come to the snakepit and see mrssoccos reaction :P
(but was the writing on the wall? I mean yes he was a September callup, but he got 0 plate appearances if Im not mistaken.)
You can have both.
I promise. We won’t mind if you’re cheating with the Aussie…well, soco might.

I find this very irritating.
Did anybody check in with me or mrssoco or hotclaws or ’charmer before this happened? Josh Byrnes, why are you ignoring us? This is just wrong.
Emily, why would anybody want to pay attention to Milwaukee?

Random factoids
Found while trawling the BR.com Play Index. Oeltjen’s 12 hits over his first five career games in the majors ties a major-league record (since 1954 at least). It had been done by five other players, including Kirby Puckett, and most recently by Bo Hart in 2003.
The three home-runs he hit in his first five major-league games has been matched by 19 other players, including Carlos Quentin. However, the record there goes to Mike Jacobs (currently with the Royals), who in his first five games for the Mets, went 7-for-9 with four homers…
