Since we decline arbitration on Schoeneweis, Tracy, and Davis...

Does this mean my boy Augie is coming back? He is arb eligible and is still list4ed on the 40-man roster (thank God!) and is also listed as int he running for the 2b starting job...please tell me my wish for his return is coming true!

Augie's my guy, as you all know...along with the Best Mustached Man In America...and I can't wait to see them both in the spring!

I think it’s probably the case. I would rather see them keep the trio of Ryal/Roberts/Pena on the roster, but I think we’ll see one of them sent to AAA, cut, or traded and Augie brought back b/c of his defense/defensive flexibility.

Pena?

My bad. Yes. Abreu.

Yep

I now get to eat crow for saying he was probably (ok, so I said more along the lines of ‘inevitably’) gone. Agree with NJJ though. If we deal one, I vote RyRo. Probably has some value due to a breakout year, and probably not going to repeat it.

It's a shame

we have to settle for the likes of Augie. He’s a dime a dozen in MLB and not going to carry us anywhere.

WAR begs to differ

Diamondbacks sorted by Wins Above Replacement
By this measure, Ojeda was worth about ten times what we paid for him in 2009, almost all due to his defensive skills, which tend not to show up in the box-score. He also represented excellent value for money in 2008, so I’d be happy for him to be on the roster again in 2010.

I was really down on Augie due to his offense

but after seeing how much he’s worth based on WAR, i’ve changed my mind. I’d rather see a pedro ciriaco given a chance though over Ojeda though.

Me too

And Ciriaco is not ready.

by paqs on Dec 7, 2009 5:08 AM EST up reply actions

I'd definitely have Ciriaco spend a year in AAA

We could do the Elvis Andrus “he’s here for his defense and his bat will come later” tactic, but that just leads to FA sooner and less overall production for your money. Ojeda and Ciriaco will have similar value defensively next year (and possibly similar value offensively…) and we can keep Ciriaco retained longer-term.

What about

the Justin Upton “he’s here because we’re in the playoff hunt even though he can’t hit OR play defense yet” tactic?

You mean the Justin Upton

“0-25 with 21 K’s is nothing when you see what this kid will do next year” tactic?

Love that one. And there goes a year of control. Le Sigh

I DO have some hope

that we might still extend him. Mostly because Scott Boras isn’t his agent.

So yeah

Sorry Rockkstarr, I know I argued incessantly with you on this one, and clearly life has showed me exactly what I can do with that argument… :-/

You ROCK!

Oh by the way I have a Tiger Woods joke for you and everyone:

Q: What’s the difference between a golf ball and a Cadillac Escalade?

A: Tiger Woods can drive a golf ball 400 yards

Yeah, I've heard that one.

Reports say that Tiger swerved to miss the fire hydrant then hit the tree. Why?

He chose the wood over the iron.

Talk about JOKES, I hope this whole Augie possibly going to the Rangers is just that…a JOKE!

Ojeda on the trade block

Sorry, Rockkstarr12… :-( Per Nick Piecoro, “Infielder Augie Ojeda has drawn interest from multiple teams in the trade market this week and dealing the popular backup isn’t out of the question for the Diamondbacks.”

"Win, or die" -- Marquise de Merteuil

by Jim McLennan on Dec 9, 2009 2:47 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, we’re going to have to offload one of the three. Augie offers the best defense and position eligibility while the others are much more adept with the stick and are younger. But I’d take the best offer the market can give us.
