SI ranks the farm systems. The DBacks are. . . .
. . . .not rated very highly: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/baseball/mlb/12/01/farm.systems/index.html
I assume they aren't giving much weight to this year's draft crop since most draft reviewers are giving the DBacks high marks for this year's draft.

i agree
that az got boned on this ranking, given the quality draft they just had. it’s even more irritating because they gave higher consideration to teams based on this year’s draft (tony sanchez, pirates) and other orginizations with mostly low level prospects.
the tigers, for instance.. they say their arms are green and have no athletes… what does that mean, for one, and how could they be ranked higher than a system with chipper jones reincarnate?
like a tornado hitting a jelly bean factory on Halloween.
Because
the Tigers have been around for 120 years and play in a state east of the Mississippi?

Hmmm....
so the Rox get credit for Tyler Matzek, and WE don’t even get any of our guys mentioned? Even after having what’s unanimously considered one of the top 2 or 3 drafts in the league??

To be fair,
Tyler Matzek was a great, ballsy pick. Which is something we just don’t make with arms. The last college arm we picked highly in the draft was Parker. Prior to that, Brett Anderson. They’re both pretty good, so why don’t we do so more often? We just stick with all of these college arms with 3/4 ceilings and so much “probability” that they get stuck in AA and AAA (this is obviously a generalization, but it has some credence to it)…
