I like it
Like a right handed Whitesell. Walks, homers, strikeouts, the whole package.
CHONE was on it quickly, adding him to our team page and updating his projection to .258/.360/.444
For comparison, our 1B hit .228/.321/.396 last year and Allen is projected to hit .256/.317/.441 (14 runs difference)
He’s about average defensively (let’s say a bit below) at first, and can play an OF corner, though my bet is not that well.
And if he doesn’t work out, we lost nothing.
Like a right handed version of what Josh Whitesell should have been*
Key distinction. Shocked by those projections though…

I'm still sure
Whitesell would have hit if given a chance. He had that horrible start but picked it up after that. Of course, the numbers ended up lagging, but if you discount the first 30 or so AB, he hit pretty well.
Maybe it's just me
But I really never remember seeing Whitesell have a positive impact on a game…

+1
"The existence of flamethrowers is proof that someone, somewhere, said to himself, 'I want to set those people over there on fire, but I don't feel like walking over there to do it.'"
Not really
Whitesell’s line discounting his first 30 at-bats: .218/.371/.321. You can squeeze out a few more points of BA by massaging the start point a bit, but doubt that’d get him even up to .230. He drew a lot of walks, but never hit worth a damn.

Walks are good
No one on the team had an OBP that high. His BABIP would also have picked up with more PA.
Well, it’s a moot point now, anyway.
Wow....
if CHONE likes him, I’m a bit optimistic.

I don't know
I was sorta hoping for Bill Bailey instead.
"I can just see it: Post 'Intervention? Why would I need an intervention?' And then he'd +1 himself."
