YPetit, DSlaten claimed off waivers

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic is reporting that Yusmeiro Petit has been claimed off waivers by the Mariners, and Doug Slaten by the Nationals.

Wow. I’m pretty sure the huge breath I took when I read this is not exactly justified, but they’ve both been with us for so long, especially Petit. It will be weird to mull over next year’s rotation without talking about him.

One less candidate for the back end of the rotation. I think it makes it even more likely that a free agent starting pitcher is brought in.
