Coaches Chip Hale and Lorenzo Bundy not returning in 2010
"A.J. Hinch on Monday announced that third base coach Chip Hale and first base coach Lorenzo Bundy would not return to the Diamondbacks next season... Hinch also announced Monday that bench coach Kirk Gibson has signed a two-year extension, and that batting coach Jack Howell and pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre will return for 2010."

I'm not sure I know enough about Lo Bundy
to make a judgment either way, but I think I’m sorry to see Chip leave. He seemed to do much better this year, and I think he’ll be a manager somewhere.
At the same time, I’m REALLY glad (and somewhat surprised) that K-Gib is sticking around.

makes you wonder
if Chip has a gig with his buddy Francona in Beantown….
I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....
I think
the mothership came to bring him back to his home planet.

Can you say "fall guy"
Chip’s getting the short end here. He got left out in the cold when it came to managing this team; now JB’s boy is making him the fall guy. Oh, well. Maybe he’ll get a shot working for an actual contender.
What’s the old saying? “The best way to get a guy fired is to make him the third base coach.” Pretty fitting.
The hiring of AJ Hinch as manager with a long term contract
was one of the weirdest, nonsensical moves in baseball history. I don’t have anything against him personally, its just he had zero managerial experience, that is, no track record of success to justify his hiring at the Major League level.

on hale. i have no data to back this up, but hale really seemed to improve as a 3b coach over the years and by the end i think was downright good. it’s too bad.
