Thank You
Hey guys. I'm not entirely sure how "ok" this is or how in-line it is with all of our rules, but I felt it was something that I wanted to express and this seemed to be the most public place to do it. If I'm crossing any lines, I apologize, but... yeah, just understand my rationale.
Anyway, I just wanted to express a genuine thank you to all of the people here. Most importantly the editors and various writers here (Jim, Skins, soco, Azreous, Sprankton, charmer, IHSB, [edit: I guess kishi, too, or whatever]... you guys know better than I do) for the great material you guys have been able to provide to all of us here on a very consistent basis. I'm sure you guys remember my attempt and it amazes me how you all can put up grade-A stuff day-in and day-out (though, someone continually tricked me into thinking that his/her recaps were finished on time...). I don't remember a recap or article that I found dull or boring. You guys are all good at what you do, let alone for something you do out of fun.
Secondly, I'd like to extend my thanks to all of the contributing members here- obviously, this includes all of the aforementioned editors, but also everyone else like me that shows up here daily (or whenever they can) to chat with all of us here and help create such a great environment. I've tried out a bunch of other blogs and mediums, and not a single other sports blog can even match the entertainment level here. This is largely due to everyone here... I really don't have a problem with anyone here (er, not serious one, anyway) and that's something very unique. Jim's help create a very friendly environment, and I'd like to applaud him and all of you for that.
Lastly, I'd just like to thank everyone reading this for giving me a new hobby. It's refreshing to have an online community that's so dedicated and friendly, and I'm really glad that I picked up on the Pit last season (though, it was very, very late last season) and I hope to be here even more next year (so forget about having a winning record- sorry). Maybe this seems overblown and extreme, but I just hope everyone knows that I really appreciate everything around here and make it clear that I'd like to be a permanent fixture. I *still* plan on attending at least one SPF, so it'll definitely be interesting. Most likely a few years out, so I hope you guys are still around (no, I don't mean alive, [though I hope that, too], I mean the site)... it's probably easy as you guys are so close in proximity that it's quite a bit easier to contact each other.
So, with that, I guess my Grammy-esque thank you is done. My bad if I forgot anyone- I tried to remember anyone, and if I didn't mention you, just pretend I did, because I probably meant to. I'll probably slowly begin to add in names of people I forgot, but my lovely catch-all of a second paragraph should be good enough. I'll be here all of the off-season, dashing the AFL and Spring Training hopes as well, but it'll still be fun. Later, guys (not really, I'll be on all night, but this is a fitting closing), and thanks for a great season.

Oh, man.
Kishi is gonna be SOOOO pissed that you forgot to mention him as an author.
Just kidding. But seriously, I can’t recall somebody thanking the Snakepit as thoroughly as this. 90% of your gratitude should be directed at Jim, who, when he’s not being grouchy about your posted pictures or my off-topic conversations, pours his heart and soul into this site. (As well as most of his free time)
I dunno about anyone else, but I really appreciated your being here. I really think it makes this site successful when we can bring Dbacks updates to fans from elsewhere — whether they’re in Tucson, Las Vegas, New Jersey, or even Britain, Brazil, Singapore or Bosnia. Be sure to stick around over the offseason and next year, but also explore some more of the SBN in-season blogs, too. Behind The Steel Curtain is a very popular SBN site; dunno if you’ve been there yet.

Well
off the top my head I’m pretty sure I’ve done more non-recap stuff then you. So what how now brown cow?

And to be honest, he’s of the funnier people I’ve met online without a doubt.

Heh.... it's funny
because we have the same record as the ZOMGWORLDCHAMPION Steelers.

We lost
to two 3-1 teams. You lost to… well, I’ll just say the Lions, as the Giants don’t help my point.
On that, the Rams have a very, very legitimate shot at 0-16 this year. They’re far worse than last year’s Lions… anyway.
Warning: the above represents the thoughts and opinions of a 15-year-old.
The
3-1 Bengals. My argument would be helped if they killed the Browns, but they returned to Bengalville today…
Warning: the above represents the thoughts and opinions of a 15-year-old.
It's very strange
watching a high-octane offense and a paltry defense in black and gold.

Um, two words.
Seattle.
Seahawks.
Warning: the above represents the thoughts and opinions of a 15-year-old.
Well
Not every team can be the 4-0 Broncos.
"I can't accept and won't concede that this is who we are..."
You can get out of here with that negativity
The god-awful Browns, a LUCKY win against Cincy, OAKLAND, and Dallas? pffffffft
Warning: the above represents the thoughts and opinions of a 15-year-old.
Hey
Put it however you want, but they held the Bengals to a touchdown over a full game. How well did your defense stop ’em?
(I’m assuming every week that this game is going to be the one that starts the collapse for the Broncos.)
"I can't accept and won't concede that this is who we are..."
Also
I hope that Denver goes 7-0 and gets throttled by Pittsburgh. Just sayin’.
Warning: the above represents the thoughts and opinions of a 15-year-old.
So
good luck on beating BAL/SD/NE.
But I kid. I don’t mind the Broncos, plus I have Marshall on my fantasy team.
Warning: the above represents the thoughts and opinions of a 15-year-old.
Eh
San Diego gave up 20 points to Oakland. Oakland’s only scored 19 in their other three games this season.
"I can't accept and won't concede that this is who we are..."
Wow....
so, like, the Steelers are even better than the Raiders??

San Diego isn't anything special
Pittsburgh’s win tonight was almost as dissatisfying as the opening game against Tennessee, reflecting. We lost Polamalu and barely beat the Titans… the Titans that are clearly terrible.
Warning: the above represents the thoughts and opinions of a 15-year-old.
But
You’re the one who brought up San Diego! =)
"I can't accept and won't concede that this is who we are..."
Um... yeah.
Last I checked, they were down 21-3 today or something.
Incidentally, we could always stop all this fighting and make fun of soco.

well what’s your excusssssssssssssssssssse?
I am Shiva the Destroyer, your harbinger of doom this evening.
My excuse?
I’m rooting for a 2-2 team that hasn’t won a Super Bowl since 1992, hasn’t won its division since 1999, and has only 1 playoff win since that year. I don’t need an excuse.

That's true
but being an author I am quite preening.
I am Shiva the Destroyer, your harbinger of doom this evening.
And
maybe it’s just the unique nature of this place, but I’ve had a hard time finding another SBNation site like here. Not that any of the places I’ve gone are bad, but the dynamic we seem to have here is certainly different, and in my opinion, better.
Everyone else can suck eggs.
Um
I mean

Yeah, I don't entirely understand what it is
but there’s something about the community here that makes everything run like clockwork. Everyone sorta has their own little role and plays it well. Dunno… I just know that it makes for a very enjoyable community.
On a sidenote, I decided to go and read my first twenty posts or so, and it turns out in my third comment I said Webb was going to win and the following inning he blew it (along with his Cy chances).

Once Wailord turns 21, he’s gonna start betting on games and then go comment on the blogs of teams he bets against, and become a kajillionaire.

I vote
that we revisit the whole idea of renting me out to other sites. Especially during postseason time- Lord knows what the going rate will be.

Plus
it’s possible that the Wailord Jinx only applies to an odd-aged Wailord. We could go 162-0 next season.

You may be clutching at straws here...
But if you jinx us as much season, I imagine we’ll hear “It’s possible that the Wailord Jinx only applies to a non-prime aged Wailord…”

Kind words appreciated
Truly, I couldn’t do it without all the other editors and authors. It was very helpful to have regular recap help this season, so big, big props to Azreous on Wednesdays, and the rotating roster of recappers on Sundays. The nights off definitely helped keep my sanity intact, and freed me up to do other pieces. Hopefully we can work something similar out next year.
I haven’t really spent much time on other SB Nation sites, but I sense they all do tend to take on the personality of their creators – which makes sense, as like attracts like. For instance, if you don’t “get” irony and sarcasm, then you won’t enjoy this site as much as you might. I’d never claim this site is for everyone, but the odd mix of personalities and characters seems to gel surprisingly well for the most part.
It’s been a sucky year in some ways, but the Pit has been a welcome release, even when the baseball team has sucked farts out of dead dogs. And not just online, but at Torospalooza, SnakePitFest, SocoFest, Jennystock and the upcoming AFLFest. Sharing my Diamondbacks fandom with others is always a pleasure, and I can’t wait for Opening Day 2010.
Again, thanks to everyone. You make the SnakePit what it is. I just hold the coats and serve the drinks. Sodas for you, Wailord and Emily. :-)

I'll just +1
This thread :) echo’s my own sentiments.
I’d like to extend my own thanks especially to Jim, Jenny and everyone else who helped me out when doing fancast earlier this year. I’m sorry it went down the tube :( but if the conditions are right I’d love to pick it up again.
It’s wierd being a day behind baseball news (due to the time difference) but this site has always made me feel like a true fan of the team each and every morning I log on.
So much credit has to go to all the authors, editors, people who show up in the GDT and obviously to Jim. To do so much unpaid work for a website out of love for your team is amazing and if everyone walked away from the site tomorrow there would be an amazing archive of analysis and opinions for people to look at for years to come.
So here’s to the Pit’ for today and tomorrow.
Cheers!
Time for another drink then?

Some Hitting Tips
Following up on some of yesterdays discussion (and to prove that I’m not totally an old grouch, a few tips from an old coach:
You said you have a problem of frequently grounding out to short. This is usually a result of two swing flaws: opening up your shoulders too soon, and pulling your head up during the swing. My quick suggestions:
1: don’t try to pull the ball, or ‘overswing’ at it. or lunge.
2: keep your weight back, and use your legs to generate power.
3: focus on putting the center of the bat through the center of the ball. Try to time the swing with the pitch so that your hitting it in the center of the plate. Line drives are good.
4: Take a couple of BP sessions where you ONLY try to line the ball to right field (you won’t be able to do it every time, but it should help you keep your head down on the ball).
5: accept that not everyone can be a great hitter, and instead try to be a productive hitter. If a sacrifice will help your team, do your best to do it.
Hope this helps you, and that you have a good season.
(now, get back to your homework, kid)
Key to the game: Score More
I'll be sure
to work on those. I’ll be heading to the cages tomorrow… thanks, and I’ll be sure to share with the world my suckitude. I’ll just put my spreadsheet in a Google doc to make it public. <3

I agree with everything you’ve said,it was a bit lonely over here being a D’backs fan until I found the Snakepit.I do think of you guys as friends and this is one of my favourite sites ever;humorous, friendly, nerdy, well informed.I appreciate all the work that goes into it from the write ups to the stats to the tiniest comment from a lurker.

The real genius of this site...
… is that it has morphed from a one man show (albeit an excellent one man show) to a real team effort. It’s a great cast of characters here and the face to face interaction a lot of you now have has really added to the overall welcoming feel.
Thanks to the whole team (but always, thanks to the special grandoompa of them all Jim).

because SnakePitFests are so much fun that you’ll want to go over and over. Going to SPF and meeting people make the GDTs even more interesting.
