Since Drew is being shopped around for some starting pitching could upton go back to shortstop? that way, we open up a spot for parra, jackson, or byrnes and we get at least, a solid starter. we would probably need to do this trade in the off-season to give upton some time to get accustomed to shortstop again, but he was a shortstop his whole life. there probably wouldn't be any drop-off in defense while we'd get to see jackson get some solid, consistent playing time.

First impression, no
I think there would be a very real drop-off in defense…at shortstop. The outfield may be able to fend for itself with such a rotation, and surely it would be nice to use our crowded outfield to plug an infield position, but I would fear what such a move would do to Upton.
Justin is our star in the making, but he was drafted and paid for his offensive prowess more than anything else. We’ve seen how he’s struggled to get accustomed to RF, and yet another position switch might draw his attention away from that all important aspect of his game.
Most importantly, I think Drew’s trade value is not where it should be for us to consider trading him right now. If he has an All-Star first half, I’d re-examine that, but wouldnt we want to keep him if that were the case and we were still in contention?
However, would Jackson moving back to first provide the same service? Then only Bynes and Parra battle for LF, while Allen either backs-up 1st, gets seasoning in the minors for awhile longer, or comes back in to replace whichever of the afore mentioned players gets hurt.
Whoops
Last two paragraphs magically switched position…unlike what I advocate for Drew/Upton. :P

there was a reason he was switched to the outfield
