Dbacks shopping Drew??
I was looking through the Rumor Central on my Insider account, and came across something I was not expecting one bit...
Stephen Drew on Boston's radar?
Shortstop Stephen Drew is expected to be shopped by the Diamondbacks, and that should include discussions with the Red Sox, reports the Boston Globe.
Last week, the Globe noted that the list of offseason chores for Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein will include a search for a shortstop.
Should we be making much of this? Seem's a little odd to me.

This was rumored a couple of weeks back
USA Today’s Bob Nightengale is saying, “The Dbacks, searching for pitching help, plan to listen to offers for SS Stephen Drew this winter. The Red Sox likely will make contact.”
— Sept. 26 recap
I hadn’t heard anything more since that point, so the Globe article would be the first independent conformation of it. However, the comment is so vague, with its “expected” and “should be,” that it’s still pretty nebulous. It might not surprise me though, with the Sox having a good number of high-grade pitching prospects. I think Drew is now arb. eligible, so his costs are going to start increasing…

The Globe
probably got it from Nightengale, who probably made it up.
I have a shrine dedicated to Mark Reynolds, wherein I keep his bobblehead, signed baseball, and jersey T-shirt.

Not until Chris Owings can prove himself more.
Probably in 2-3 years. If he gets shipped this off season I will kill Josh Byrnes.
It would be bothersome at this point, considering he’s still young, but he could bring in some decent prospects when he’s at his prime.
It will be a make or break decision for Byrnes.

Chris Owings
Is years off. More than 2-3. It’s Ciriaco you need to be looking at. Aside from being a 2B possibility, the kid’s got near-flawless shortstop D. He’s gonna be in Reno next year, so a stop-gap shortstop is technically all we need if we’re going to absolutely rely on him having a good year. If the return for Drew is good enough, then it’s worth thinking about. But it won’t be, because Drew had a mediocre year in comparison to ‘08 and there’s no reason to possibly sell-low if you’re not totally sure if he will or will not regain his prior form.

Bleh Ciriaco.
I don’t see much out of him.

I forgot to mention
when I said 2-3 years, I didn’t mean I thought that’s when Owings would be in the bigs, that’s when we’ll get a good look at what he’s got exactly considering he’s still an unknown.

We can't trade Drew, when his vaule is so low.
I would have to get a pretty good return to trade him.
Because this is Arizona.

It's worth considering
with Ciriaco in the wings at ss. The need to get some more top pitching prospects is big in the organization if they want to build a winner from within.
I would also listen to anyone who would take CY’s contract off our hands for some good prospects.

Our pitching depth
Isn’t totally lacking. Cesar Valdez, while he recently got totally rocked in the AFL, is major-league ready. Augenstein is very good and still surprisingly young (23). Jarrod Parker is 20 and may be in the rotation next year, as we’ve still yet to hear more about whether or not he’ll undergo TJ surgery or not. Does the fact that we’ve been debating this for a month now suggest he is ok? Hope so… Matt Torra belonged in AAA all year, but decided instead to just go ahead and dominate Mobile. Billy Buckner will be in the rotation next season. Kevin Mulvey is a wild card. Lower in the system, Pat McAnaney, Wes Roemer, Wade Miley, Tom Layne, Mike Belfiore, and Daniel Taylor all are promising. If you’re thinking “top line” pitching prospects, sure, the list ends at Parker and maybe, if we’re lucky, Belfiore or one of the other high-risk, high-ceiling younger guys. But it’s not Bleak Street.
