DiamondbacksBullpen.org update

The hosting providers for DBBP scheduled a database move for today, to try and resolve the sporadic issues which have been plaguing the site of late. I still haven't heard back from them about its completion. Here is the chat I just had...

Kirill Koban: Welcome! This is Kirill, please let me know how can I assist you today?

you:
Ticket #934093
you:
It's for a DB move, scheduled for today. Can you please confirm it's still going ahead?

Kirill Koban: sorry but as I can see your ticket is still processing so please wait an answer in your ticket
Kirill Koban: as I can see it may take nearly 12 hours more.

you: Ok. As long as it IS completed tonight, as the ticket states.

Kirill Koban: please check your ticket in 8-10 hours. Sorry but I can say more exactly now when it will be finished
Kirill Koban: it maybe processed earlier - I`m provide you a maximum time

you: Ok. I'll check back later tonight. Thanks.

Sigh...

The fun of incompetent tech support

“Will this be completed today?”
“I can tell you after midnight.”

You think?

“sorry but as I can see your ticket is still processing so please wait an answer in your ticket”

That’s a mouthful and a half.

Also OTOH,

it means we suddenly get a happy influx of DBBPers.

Outsourcing rules!

Which non-English speaking country does this tech support operate from?

Reading it I'd say

the same country Yoda came from

Eastern bloc, is my guess

I’ve encountered mostly Sergeis and Ivans in my time with them. Hey, at least my employers make them use fake, English sounding names for the Indian reps, so Bhuwani Piriwalla becomes “Brad Pitt” or whatever, on the live chat…

Still nothing. I’m thinking it’s less and less likely anything will get done, so I’ll probably wake up tomorrow and simply turn everything back on. There’s a point when the undeniable hassle of moving everything somewhere else begins to seem not too awful…

Could also be South America

The sentence structure looks a lot like the Brazilians I usually deal with.

It seems

that most Indian TS reps use western names. That, and they sometimes try to speak in a southern accent.

I think you’d be correct about Eastern bloc with Mr. Koban. “Koban” to me sounds almost like a Georgian name.

Oh well

I thought Nick’s article on Moorad’s “legacy” would have been a fun discussion item for the day, as well as his article about D-Hall and JB likely staying in place with the organization, but that’s ok.

I must say, however, a day w/o DBBP feels a lot longer than a day…

Touche sir

But I’m going to be back in school tomorrow =[

That means I’ll have to spend a good portion of my time when I get home catching up on posts before I can join into the discussion…

The sun'll come out

11pm and still nothing

I’m off to bed, but I don’t want to turn things back on immediately. Assuming nothing happens overnight, service will be resumed around 8am tomorrow. I apologize for the complete waste of time this entire process appears to have been…
