Garland deal official?
Nick Piecoro reports that Garland signs with the D-Backs for $6-8 million. One year deal with a second year option that can be exercised by either the player or the team.
Lets hope this works out. Will another year removed form injury be the answer for Garland?
[Jim: Front Page'd for obvious reasons. :-) Full report to follow tonight!]

....wow.
Was NOT really expecting that.

very interesting
Much of how this will be evaluated (before the season, not after) will be based on what sort of contracts this next tier of pitchers sign.
Garland is okay, I guess. Glad to have another durable arm in the rotation… but his peripherals have fallen for two consecutive years, and he’s only 29. Did he peak at 26 or can he regain 2006 form?
With four very durable pitchers it will be interesting to see what sort of innings Petit et al can garner. The typical mantra is: “can’t have enough starting pitching” — and that’s well and good. However, I think one would be hard pressed to find a club with 4 SPs with the kind of durability track record we’ve assembled. In the case of Haren and Webb that’s only a good thing… in the case of Davis and Garland… well, we shall see.

On MLB Trade Rumors it says the option is mutual,
meaning it must be exercised by both Garland and the D-Backs.

I think he already on the decline....
….His stats will improve in the NL west but I wish the option wasn’t mutual. I wish he was more one and done with his high salary. But then good thing is if he does real well, he’ll opt out and with some other contracts coming off the books we can extend Webby.
Overall I think it was a good move but I expect some bad fielding behind him…
Yes, I'm a Diamondback and Suns fan. So you may be wondering, "Why does this fool like the Broncos so much?"
A: The Cardinals are too hard of a pill to swallow. Oh yeah and that Elway dude....
It's going to take A LOT more than $10 million (the value of Garland's option year)
to re-sign Webby.

But D&D is coming off the books...
And Tracy too, correct? That’s somewhere near 20 mill…

I'm okay
with having White Sox duders around.

Kind of a
one for one “bag of balls” trade with Young/Quentin.

forgot about Young
yeah we owe them one for that.
Here grab my hand, let me help you aboard the Cardinals' band wagon!
Not anymore
after the Quentin debacle. I think MLB should just make a blanket rule that says “Diamondbacks and White Sox shouldn’t do trades with each other, because they get hella dumb.”
