MLB Network

What do you think of the MLB Network so far?  It's been on for over an hour now, so you should have some opinion of it.

I like it.  Turned it on about 10 minutes before the hour, and listened to the inspirational music and quick shots of various players and plays.   They were inspirational of course, and I was ready for the show to begin.

I'm impressed with the commentators and with the format of the show so far.   The commentators are not all out to out-yell or make fun of each other (Fox NFL pregame, I'm looking at you).   They are intelligent, thoughtful, and know their stuff.  The main 4 guys are easy to watch; and the 2 women are knowledgeable, not just attractive additions.

Now I'm watching the perfect game with Don Larson, complete with ads.  Very fun.

This is going to be one of my most-watched channels if it maintains the quality shown so far.

Just turned it on

To watch some of the perfect game. The most amazing thing for me, is that Vin Scully is doing commentary! :-) I look forward to seeing the Hot Stove Report later [we missed the first time it was on]. So far, so good: I like Bob Costas, and hope they use him a lot.

My, weren't things *primitive*

That’s the main factor I’ve noticed, watching this game from fifty-odd years ago. They seem to have about two cameras, with the main one behind the plate. No instant replay. No box-score on the screen. The commentators seem to think they’re doing radio, to some extent, as they are much more descriptive than their modern-day counterparts.

And not one demand for more signs at the ballpark. That’s just wrong… :-)

Mr. 4 Corners Fan

noticed that the commentators didn’t talk all the time, which was nice.

De-lurking in the offseason for a sec

That I’m loving the MLB Network so far. The way they have the ability to breakdown and recreate plays in studio (like Jackie Robinson stealing home) is the kind of thing that will keep me watching. Fascinating.

I want to be in Haren's harem.

It's great

I don’t have any complaints. I especially loved them breaking down the mechanics of stealing home.

Yinz

actually got MLB Network today? We’re in Gilbert with a Cox digital box and channel 175 doesn’t even show up in the program guide. I tried to enter it in manually and it defaulted to the next available channel, 180.

Had I not been in a hurry I would have called to complain, but maybe I’ll do that tomorrow.

by dahlian on Jan 2, 2009 1:08 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Same thing here

Gilbert? Check
Digital box? Check
Channel 175? Nope

I’ll be calling to complain tonight after work. Probably won’t do any good, but we’ll see. In the past we’ve had luck with minor (to Cox, not to us) problems, when we repeatedly scheduled the same service call until it was fixed (sometimes five minutes after the repair guy told us it couldn’t be fixed and left). I’m not sure how to apply the same principles to this situation, but we’re gonna keep poking Cox until we actually get the MLB Network.

Looks like they'll be doing some re-runs

so you should be able to catch most of the “Opening Day” stuff.

The Mariner Housewife in Portland has Comcast, which shows it to be available, but she’s getting nothing. She is not a happy girl. I’m walking a fine line between being enthusiastic about it and sounding like neener, neener, we’ve got it and you don’t.

Also, did you catch in the interview with Don Larson that he’d never actually seen the film of his perfect game? He had such a great big smile on his face after it was over.

It's like living with a six-year old.

MLB network

Love it.
From November 1 each year I start to miss the great game.
Now I can get my regular fix!
Be interesting to see their take on deals, rosters and the draft.
I’m on Cox – no prob.

The commercials

I actually enjoyed the fact that they showed a lot of the on-screen commercials during the break – gave it a real sense of history. Though as with the presentation, they seemed astonishingly primitive, as if Mark Grace was drawing them on the screen with the telestrator. I also liked how Costas, Larsen and Berra would point out things between innings, such as how the ball Mantle ran down in left-center would, in all probability, have been a home-run anywhere else. Was that a 457 ft sign on the wall behind him? 8-O

Justin Upton’s on Host Stove right now and not only does he look much older with facial hair, he looks huge. It seems like he’s beefed up. His head is….very large.

If complete and utter chaos was lightning, he'd be the sort to stand on a hilltop in a thunderstorm wearing wet copper armour and shouting 'All gods are bastards'.

And I have to say

I love “Hot Stove” so much. Miles away better than “Baseball Tonight.”

Also

Poor guy can’t get a break. He goes on the show and all they want to talk to him about is B.J. He’ll probably get a very sympathetic phone call from Stephen Drew later.

I cant find it on cox!!

What is the channel supposed to be? I had heard 175, but it’s not there!

Yes, I'm a Diamondback and Suns fan. So you may be wondering, "Why does this fool like the Broncos so much?"

I've heard

parts of Phoenix have had problems getting the channel in right away; I’m Scottsdale and had no problem, but you might want to give Cox a ring about it.

Hmmm....

nice to know that the MLB Network didn’t accidentally get rerouted to the wine and cheese shop or something like that.

Eegee's is tasty,

For me

Baggin’s doesn’t hold a candle to Beyond Bread.

I was just watching that.

Too much Manny Ramirez for my tastes, though.

On another note, every commercial break seems to contain shots of Harold Reynolds groping a baseball.
