Playing Hard/softball
So a little nugget was unearthed in the recent Game Thread about possibly setting up a game of stick and ball. Obviously with SnakepitFest coming up and then Rauch's birthday part/end of the year blowout, this is something that might not happen until the offseason. Another good reason to wait a little bit is simply so we don't all die of heat stroke.
No, this is a little fishing post, an attempt to gauge the interest level if you will. I have a few questions that can make a gathering easier to plan in the future, so if you'd happily oblige me:
1) Do you want to play? The simplest question, but even if you say no, a game and barbeque/picnic I think would be perfect for the people that might not be completely interested in playing.
2) Would you rather play baseball or softball? This is important, as if more people would want to play softball, we would need to know that for equipment, location, et cetera.
3) Do you own a glove? Saying no wouldn't exlude anyone as we can share gloves, but ideally we would want to have 9 or so gloves as a group. Also, we would need the right gloves as infielder baseball gloves don't really work well for softball.
4) Do you own a bat? Obviously we'll need at least one bat.
5) Where do you live? Most likely any location would be in the central areas of Phoenix, but if the vast majority of us are in a particular area, that would be good to know. You don't have to get specfic, just a general area like Scottsdale or Surprise or Gila Bend.
6) Do you have any experience? Again, obviously this wouldn't exclude anyone, but it would interesting to know. Me, I have some Little League experience and softball from grade school, but haven't played much since then.
Thanks for your participation!

As for me
1) Of course I want to play!
2) I’d prefer baseball, but would play anything honestly.
3) I own an infielder’s baseball glove, and have a softball glove somewhere, but we’ll put that as missing.
4) No bat for me, though I’d be willing to find one if necessary.
5) Mid-Scottsdale for me, though I could travel to most parts of the city.
6) Again, all of my experience is from a kid, and haven’t played much since. I’d like to play more, though, as baseball is something I enjoy.

If I happen to be in AZ at the time, I'm in...
1) I love to play, no question.
2) I would prefer baseball, but either is good by me. Especially if people are more comfortable playing one way or the other.
3) I own a few gloves (11, 11.25, 11.75), and pops has a softball glove or two.
4) I have a bat too, but only for baseball. You keep your softballs away from my bat.
5) I am about ten minutes north of the ballpark.
6) I came to Pepperdine to play ball, so yes. I have been playing since I could walk.

busy sundays? come play in a pick-up game with a bunch of guys in chandler. “hard” ball, every week at either 4, or 5, depending on whether or not the city has allowed us to reserve the field (lights). just a fun game with cool guys of all skill levels. let me know if you’re interested!

Woo!
1) I would love to play. I’m currently trapped in the Bay Area, but there may be potential for a glorious return to the Valley in the next few weeks. I’m keeping everything crossed that this happens.
2) I think baseball would be more fun, but only if we have good enough pitchers. Otherwise, I think softball may be easier.
3) I do. It’s a baseball glove, but I use it for softball quite often. Plus, I’m a lefty, and am willing to share with any other southpaws out there. I could also bring a bunch of other right handed gloves if needed.
4) Unfortunately not.
5) Nowhere yet. But If I were to move, I would likely head for the south side (Tempe, Chandler, Ahwatukee area).
6) Haven’t played baseball since Little League, but I’ve been playing city league softball for the past few years.
Just as a side note, I’m very excited about this. It sounds like a lot of fun..

1. Absolutely
2. Either one, I just want to play
3. I own a glove. Somewhere. I’m pretty sure. Um, I’ll just have to find it.
4. The only bat I own is from Little League, so it’s probably not much help.
5. I’m out in Surprise.
6. Played a year of little league, played a few games of softball in high school, and a little bit more softball about five years ago or so.

baseball sunday
a group of friends and i get together and play a game every sunday at 4 or 5 in chandler. we reserve a field at the park, play “hard” ball, and just play a fun pick up game until they turn the lights off on us. there is an ever revolving door of players, with this week being a particularly dire one with regard to being able to assemble full teams. if ANYONE (man/woman/pro/never even played little leage/fat/slow/awesome/fun) would like to come join us on the diamond for just a fun game with friends, please let me know and i would love to give you all the deets and have you come out and play with us.
