Gameday Thread, #114: 8/6 vs Pirates
Pittsburgh @ Arizona

Baseball-Reference.com preview [opens in new window]
After the lengthy winless streak, Johnson is now making up for lost time, having put together five victories in a row. That's not bad, until you hear that is only the equal fourteenth longest winning run of his career. He has won eight starts in a row or more on seven separate occasions, all the way up to his run from 08/11/95 through 05/02/97, where Johnson won sixteen consecutive starts, with an ERA of 1.62. Be nice if he could make a run at that...
Afternoon game, so I'll keep this brief. Might be about, but probably only be active for lunch...

Hey everyone, I’m new.
I can’t believe it’s so early! Anyways, hopefully Johnson can keep it up, and we can sweep the Pirates, and hope the Cardinals beat up on the Dodgers!! Nice to see CY hitting again!

Excellent.
One of these days, we should have our own get-together. Zephon and I have been discussing, on and off, heading to the Auld Dubliner sometime before SnakePitFest.

Good lineup. I would be kind of tentative to do this since it’s been working so well lately, but what do you guys think about Romero leading off? and push everyone down? Romero gets on base like a lead off hitter, and Drew has been hitting very well.. no? Just a thought.

But he does draw walks sometimes. I feel bad for him too.
Anyway, Drew steps up in the leadoff spot somehow, and Romero seems waaay too untested to lead off. To me.

Dumb move.
As I already pointed out, he’s got a career ERA of 6.50 at Coors.
Then again, the worst moves the Rockies made were the ones they didn’t: holding onto Fuentes and Holliday, for example.

No.
Instead, they should base their entire future on an aging roster and a fortuitous 20-some game stretch where they lucked their way into the World Series, especially when over halfway through the season, they’re almost certainly out of contention.

It’s still the same team that won the NL Pennant, right? And how do you figure that it’s an aging team outside of Helton? We can’t always assume that the cellar teams are nothing but farm teams for the rest of the league like Pittsburgh.

I’d kill to one of their top offensive performers play here, and they have quite a few doing well. Pitching always has, and probably always will, be the downfall of the Rockies but if they can figure that out they could be a very scary team.
