What is the upcoming pitcher rotation?
In a couple of places, I have seen a 4 man pitching rotation for Arizona this week staerting August 25. Haren, Webb, Johnson, off day, Davis, Haren, Webb. I know that it is at least a 5 day rotation, but do you really think that they will go to the 4 man rotation or will Yusmeiro Petit be thrown into the mix?
2 hits in last saturday's game is not that bad!
I would like to see him get some more work!

Good question
This has been discussed a little bit over the past week or two: it started here, but discussion intensified following a great performance from Petit on Saturday, and a decent performance by Davis on Sunday. I think it’s inevitable that one or other will be skipped with the off day on Thursday. This not only means we get to send Webb and Haren against the Dodgers this weekend, it also sets the rotation up so that we also get to send the same pair up when we travel to LA, September 5-7.
As for who they go with…sheesh, not a decision I would want to make. Petit has been the better pitcher of late, there’s no doubt about that, but his BABIP of .189 this season is ranked 3rd among the 323 pitchers with 40+ innings in the majors this year, and seems unsustainable. Dare we roll the die once more? Davis would probably seem the ‘safer’ choice, but with Petit ready to go from the pen on a moment’s notice.
Also, to the OP,
welcome to the SnakePit!!

Petit is getting skipped
Melvin said that with Thursday’s off day he again will push back the next start of right-hander Yusmeiro Petit, a move designed to get the most out of the team’s front four starters while keeping them on their regular four days’ rest.
UGH

Idea
The three of us should form a sort of Greek chorus that follows Melvin around and mocks him for his poor choices. And not just managerial- everything.
"Only one thing is gonna walk you through this, Mal. Belief."
Why don't
we just leave a flaming bag of dog poo on his doorstep instead?

If we go with my way
We’d get to make fun of Bob Melvin on a nearly constant basis.

Okay, compromise.
We’ll follow him around and insult him, and you follow him around with flaming bags of dog poo.
One problem.
If we do that, foulpole will only “joke” about that more.
I do like the idea of popping up behind Melvin’s booth and insulting his choice of well done for his steak though.
Yeah, I figure that'll be the real benefit
“Really, Bob? Half windsor knot? You think that’s the way to go?”
"Only one thing is gonna walk you through this, Mal. Belief."
"Seriously, Bob?
Red wine with fish?"

It's a good thing Melvin is married
Otherwise, we’d make his dating life hell.
Still, we’ll have anniversaries and birthdays to look forward to. “Oh, flowers, real original there, Bob. Way to think outside the box there.”

Daughter's birffday:
“Wow, Bob, a bike, some father YOU are. Don’t you know every girl wants a pony?”

Holidays!
“Is that how you carve a turkey? Why bother with the knife, just get a chainsaw. And only one type of pie? And you don’t even get real whipped cream? I guess this is what a Bob Melvin Thanksgiving is supposed to.”
"Only one thing is gonna walk you through this, Mal. Belief."
Going to the store!
“Awwww, c’mon, Bob! Why are you going to Fry’s, when there’s a huge sale at Safeway? If you paid attention you’d KNOW that….”

Just took a look at some of the numbers on Haren
As good as he is, on 5 days rest Haren is 8-5 with a 3.50 ERA.
With greater than 5 days rest he is 6-1 with a 2.48 ERA!
I know that it is just natural to want to see him pitch as much as possible but perhaps fatigue has come into play!
On the othr hand, I then looked back at last year and found that the situation was totally reversed. On 5 days rest he was 12-4 with a 2.79 ERA and with >5 days he was 3-4 with a 3.95 ERA. Go figure!
As to the Diamondbacks no scoring runs for him, July 4th was the last time they scored 2 runs or less for him! There a lot of other pitchers that have gotten lttle offensive support!
But I still would like to see Petit as part of the 5 man rotation!
