D-Backs' best, worst player acquisitions
The Republic has come up with top five lists in each category. Off the cuff, and without looking at their list as yet, here are my choices:
BEST
1. Luis Gonzalez
2. Randy Johnson v1.0
3. Curt Schilling
4. Orlando Hudson
5. Steve Finley
Honorable mentions: Dan Haren, Craig Counsell
Worst
5. Jason Grimsley
4. Shawn Green
3. Richie Sexson
2. Todd Stottlemyre
1. Russ Ortiz
Dishonorable mentions: Johnson v2.0, Bernard Gilkey

No one...
...mentions Dan Uggla was in the AZ system before the Marlins got him the Rule 5 draft for $50k. Like he wouldn’t be better at the 4 than O-dawg?
Not an acquisition
I think they mean players we got from other teams, or signed as free-agents.

I understand...
...that. However, he spent 5 years in the AZ org without anyone recognizing his potential. Now we are watching him in the HR Derby.
yes...
...and some would claim that those of us who thought it was a bad idea at the time have beaten that dead horse for far too long…

Indeed.
This is like Carlos Quentin * 10, since we didn’t get anything in return….

Funny.
Emily and I were just talking about this tonight during the HR derby. (I have no idea how it turned out, since I was in a car between San Diego and Tucson at the time)
Incidentally, a friend of my brother’s got drafted by the Marlins this spring.

?
How is Albie Lopez not on the list?! I think he goes on that list well before Stottlemyre. At least Stot had balls.

What about picking up Augie Ojeda before the 2007 season.
That has got to be up there!

Not related to anything...
...just witnessed the Josh Hamilton show. Unbelievable stuff. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a display like that. It looked like they had put a rocket launcher behind home plate.
