Fantasy Movie Mogul, anyone?
Over at FantasyMoguls.com, you get to test your box-office skills out - just like fantasy baseball, you get a fixed budget and have to buy a slate of movies, based on how well you think they will perform. Prices range from $49 for The Dark Knight, down to $2 for Midnight Meat Train [they're clearly not Clive Barker fans!], and points are awarded based on box-office return, critical acclaim, etc.
The season runs for three months, and the next one starts July 3rd, so I've opened up an "AZ SnakePit" league there; ten slots at the moment, but I can add more as needed. The password on the league is hugemanatee - you'll need that when you sign up. Hope to see some of you there. Particularly Ben. :-)

I signed up
should I just pick my movies or do I have to wait for everyone else?

Pick away
You can amend your roster at any time, though obviously, once a movie has opened, it’s “locked” and you can’t pick or drop it. But since it’s based on a salary-cap, not an auction or draft, it doesn’t matter if you choose the same film as another player.

interesting idea...
Two days later, Eric Byrnes missed three games for excessive crying, and started listening to emo. At the same time, Emily changed her name to emilylovesthedbacksexceptthatloserericbyrnes.

Those of you interested in this fantasy league,
may get a kick out of this movie-making card game. Of course, I’ve only heard about via interview with the creator so I have no first-hand experience.
But it sounds fun.

The direct link
is here but after you sign up for the site you should be able to just search the leagues. That’s what I did to find it, the password is ‘hugemanatee’.

I actually
have played a different sort of Fantasy Movie game for the last six years. Different, in that it’s not really externally competitive. There is an overall ranking, but that doesn’t mean much when some people have just joined yesterday.
I started out with $2,000,000 and I am currently worth $73,033,016.86. My biggest moneymaker recently has been The Dark Knight—which has earned me a net of over $8 million, and I just bought 50,000 shares in James Bond 23.
It’s fun to try your hand at predicting movies, and it turned out to be a great lesson for me in investing – by using a subject inherently more interesting than corporations. I recommend it. :)

Interesting stuff
Heard of it, but not taken part as yet. It seems a bit esoteric as far as gains and losses – I mean, what exactly did David Schwimmer do today, to make him the biggest gainer? But I can certainly see how you could really get into it, and likely learn stuff. [Albeit in my case, that Charlize Theron is going to do a remake of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, which is very cool.] I’d best stay clear though: too many things taking up too much time, as is!

That's the great thing about it.
When your stocks cash out, you still earn interest on the cash, so you can literally leave it for months at a time. I do. ;-)
