Middle of the fifth inning and we need a new thread? I'll take it!
4-1, Your Arizona Diamondbacks on top. I won't invoke the name of the lovely lass from last night, but she is always in our hearts. Or, if you'd rather: everything is turrible and we suck and AH BLOO BLOO BLOO ;-)

Well,his stuff was handy
and frankly I think he’s a tad gloomier
We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.
Listen people, everybody have a seat on the couch.....
So here’s the deal…... I HAD tickets to this game. In Boston. I also had tickets to yesterday’s game. I also had tickets to tomorrow’s game. Along with tickets to the Nationals game on Friday, the Yankees – Reds on Saturday, and the Phillies game Sat night. Sunday was set apart for the Hall of Fame —
Was combining a business trip with a DREAM baseball weekend —and then the business trip got cancelled -- and here I sit on the other side of the country.
So now you know why the D-backs will sweep this series. So lighten up, pitters! Life is great.
just finished reading the end of the normal thread...
and i must say, y’all are more entertaining negative.

Currently blaming the D-backs struggles on: the Diamondbacks scoring fewer runs than the other team. Well, I was bound to get it right eventually.
I agree that the current ones are pretty bad
but I wish they would go to the old old ones, or at least like a classic style. Then they could bust out crazy designs like the above as an alternate.

Both are at a significantly higher rate than Pena and Lyon.

You know
last night’s game thread was fun after the game was over. I suspect it will not be the same tonight :-(
Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads.
I know we should have won this one
but on the other hand we’re playing well against a great team. I know it’s a small consolation prize, but it’s something.
Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads.
We had a 3 run lead in the 8th inning.
We brought in a reliever who allows 40% of inherited runners to score, with 2 men on.
There is NO consolation prize for something that stupid.

Give me a break
the game sucks but it’s not like we played the Royals again. We should have won, but didn’t, and at the same time the Red Sox are a great time. I can acknowledge that, can’t I?
Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads.
Sure.
I’m glad we didn’t lose another series to the Royals or split another series with the Pirates?
OTOH, I really feel like when you’re playing the best teams, you’ve gotta be playing your best to win. We played well enough to win tonight, on the road, against possibly the best team in baseball. We took a 3 run lead into the 8th. Our manager then made a stupid move that cost us the game.
Best managers (like umpires) are the ones you never notice.

So yeah, I guess management can be included there.
I didn't really like that trade.
We got a reliever, a bench player, and a minor league pitcher.
The talent that is Josh Hamilton.
Dunno about that.
Valverde’s ERA was somewhere around 2.20 last year. He had a career year. This year, it’s up at 4.34 so far. Even with Qualls’ recent meltdowns, his ERA’s only at 3.50, and with the exception of the first 2 weeks, Lyon has been a FANTASTIC closer.

You know why Melvin bothers me?
He believes the front office PR machine? Owings has a pinch hit homer? Pinch hit him all the time, despite the strikeout rate. Qualls throws a one-pinch double play one time? Bring him in with runners on despite how much he’s struggled. It’s like the man doesn’t believe in a fluke.
Conversely
maybe he’s forced to and just acts the part.
Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads.
And where are the comments about Qualls by Sutton and Gracie and questioning of putting him in at all when Cruz was available?
Problem here is
you put in Cruz, he gives up the lead, then everybody rips on BoMel for not putting in Qualls
I wouldn't.
It’d be something new. The Qualls thing has been a real issue lately.

by DbacksSkins on Jun 24, 2008 11:04 PM EDT up reply actions
Well
he got Manny Ramirez out on a weak grounder. I hear he’s pretty good.
Melvin probably didnt want Cruz facing Drew with runners on base – and if that was his thinking I could hardly blame him. Besides, Cruz is on the emotional side and this is Fenway.
Shit happens.

It was a tough loss
against a formidable team, but we’re 11-10 in one run decisions, about where most teams wind up. And we’re way ahead of the game on that score since Melvin took over in 2005.
Waaay ahead.
by Diamondhacks on Jun 24, 2008 11:31 PM EDT up reply actions
The biggest thing is,
with two runners already on base, I don’t trust Cruz’s 22 walks in 28 innings against the heart of one of the most lineups in all of baseball.
The save makes managers dumb. It’s the eighth inning of a tight game, there are runners on first and second with murderer’s row due up – the only reason to not bring the best reliever on the team is that they won’t get that stupid “S” added to the end of their line in the box score. You have your best reliever pitch to the best hitters in the biggest situations and then you let Qualls pitch in the ninth against the bottom of the order with no men on.
About the walks
it’s also surprising that Davis was able to do that well against this lineup. A guy that lets on a ton of guys against them would seem like suicide.
Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads.
I meant Grace and Sutton not rocking the boat.
I’m unhappy, sure, but oh well.
Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads.
At that point I was outside playing with the dog
and listening on the radio. I couldn’t stand to watch.
If they brought it up, bully for them, but I was back in after the tying run scored and they didn’t make any mention about it. The one thing that tends to infuriate me about them is that there are certain guys (mainly the young guys), whose mistakes they continually harp on, innings after they’ve already occurred. Meanwhile, other players may make a mistake and they’ll quickly forget about it an inning later.
