D'backs V. Red Cubs II: overflow thread

Middle of the fifth inning and we need a new thread?  I'll take it!

4-1, Your Arizona Diamondbacks on top.  I won't invoke the name of the lovely lass from last night, but she is always in our hearts.  Or, if you'd rather:  everything is turrible and we suck and AH BLOO BLOO BLOO ;-)

Listen people, everybody have a seat on the couch.....

So here’s the deal…... I HAD tickets to this game. In Boston. I also had tickets to yesterday’s game. I also had tickets to tomorrow’s game. Along with tickets to the Nationals game on Friday, the Yankees – Reds on Saturday, and the Phillies game Sat night. Sunday was set apart for the Hall of Fame —

Was combining a business trip with a DREAM baseball weekend —and then the business trip got cancelled -- and here I sit on the other side of the country.

So now you know why the D-backs will sweep this series. So lighten up, pitters! Life is great.

But most of the games where the bullpen blows it and all of the games when Melvin leaves in an obviously gassed starter to get the win—THOSE are on Melvin’s shoulders.

Waaay ahead.

by Diamondhacks on Jun 24, 2008 11:31 PM EDT up reply actions

The biggest thing is,

with two runners already on base, I don’t trust Cruz’s 22 walks in 28 innings against the heart of one of the most lineups in all of baseball.

The save makes managers dumb. It’s the eighth inning of a tight game, there are runners on first and second with murderer’s row due up – the only reason to not bring the best reliever on the team is that they won’t get that stupid “S” added to the end of their line in the box score. You have your best reliever pitch to the best hitters in the biggest situations and then you let Qualls pitch in the ninth against the bottom of the order with no men on.

If they brought it up, bully for them, but I was back in after the tying run scored and they didn’t make any mention about it. The one thing that tends to infuriate me about them is that there are certain guys (mainly the young guys), whose mistakes they continually harp on, innings after they’ve already occurred. Meanwhile, other players may make a mistake and they’ll quickly forget about it an inning later.

This is also true.

I drew all the bad guys in blue.

I imagine

Melvin holding out a handful of highlighters and a letting everyone pick their color.

That's

probably Melvin’s idea of a “team meeting”, or “taking infield”, or something.

Strawberries and cream, yummmmmmmmmmmmm! I love getting up at 6 a.m. to watch the ladies and gentlemen’s finals. I used to love the Chris and Martina showdowns.

Candiott just said on the radio that he prefers Qualls coming in to start an inning. Wow, somebody with a brain and a voice.

Hey...

what a f$@#$&(# novel idea!!!!!

maybe someone should tell bob melvin?

That's EXACTLY

what I keep saying. He’s great, when he starts the inning himself. When he comes in with runners already on, he is NOT GOOD.

I'm going July 4th, as far as I know.

I’ll make it really big, and sit in the outfield on the visitor’s side.

VOLUNTEERING.

I’m going too. You should bring a “nice” sign and then flip it over and write a personal message to BoMel with a sharpie on the other side.

Gorilla with a telegram?

Currently blaming the D-backs struggles on: the Diamondbacks scoring fewer runs than the other team. Well, I was bound to get it right eventually.

+1

I found this funny, I’m not sure why

by dstorm on Jun 24, 2008 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Simple reason

Because everything is funnier when it involves a gorilla.

Well, except deforestation of tropical jungles. Unless the gorillas are driving the bulldozers. So put that under “Maybe.”

Somebody print out my visual aid

and send it down to the dugout. Tell Melvin it’s the secret to a new way of bunting, so we’ll be sure he opens it.

Losses like this really hurt. Do you suppose Qualls avoids DD in the clubhouse totally or does he say anything to Doug? I have always wondered about how that goes.

by TwinnerA on Jun 24, 2008 10:47 PM EDT reply actions

I bet DD treats Qualls like he did the thyroid.

He could hold Qualls down and steal his healthy thyroid gland.

Evidence

seems to suggest that that would make Qualls pitch better, too.

Okay guys

we need that win tomorrow
1) we just do
2) it’s on UK Tv so I will be watching it for real, sat up and everthing ,out of bed with a hat on
3)one of the presenters, Josh is a Red Sox fan and I can email him during the game to taunt him
4) dessert?(I’d like Mark covered with whipped cream please)

We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.

by hotclaws on Jun 24, 2008 10:55 PM EDT reply actions

And now the replay of the game begins. Now I am getting pissed all over again. At least Sutton and Gracie finally said BoMel “might’ need to reconsider putting Qualls in in that situation again. Finally!

by TwinnerA on Jun 24, 2008 10:58 PM EDT reply actions

This can't be good for the clubhouse, either.

Making the same mistake multiple times, losing games that way, and leaving Qualls out on a limb when he clearly can’t handle that situation.
