Why, thank you, sir!
I was reading another baseball blog for some reason -- maybe hoping the fans of that team were suffering as much as we are -- and there was a fanpost about how the male bloggers mistreated the female bloggers on that site. Evidently several women had started out with that blog and eventually quit posting because it was such a chauvinistic and hateful site. The women who do post on there seem to be very defensive. Uncomfortable.
So, on behalf of myself and all the other women who post here, I thank all of you men for not making our gender an issue, for appreciating our posts for what they are, and not making fun of our crushes. (Because we don't make fun of yours!)
Anyway, after reading that blog, I really appreciate the community we have here. I've not found it on many other blogs.
Thanks.

LOL
Well, to be honest, I couldn’t poke fun anyway, since I’ve got as big a crush on Mark Reynolds as any woman here. You’re welcome, I guess, although of all the men here, I’m probably the worst.
Serious question though: Why do so many of our posters also read Lookout Landing?

Hey! How did you know it was Lookout Landing?
I read Lookout Landing because my daughter is a crazy insane Mariners fan. This is the daughter whose kid’s middle name is Ichiro; which fits him because it evidently means First Son, which he is, OR Bright and Cheerful Boy, which he also is. Anyway, I like to keep up with them so that I can talk Ichiro and other details with her. And see how long it takes for them to be as bitter about Richie Sexson as I am. (Hint: They are there already.)
She doesn’t post there, tho. She has her own blog: http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/marinerfan/
and women are very welcome to post there, of course.

Well,
isn’t this what you were referring to? You forget that I’m Foreign Minister. This is my job. ;-)
Lookout Landing is somewhat like GLB, in that there are a lot more posters, but a lot more young posters, and the posting tends to be (on average) a bit cruder and more base than the posting here. Granted, at LL they’re not nearly as xenophobic as they are at GLB.
The reason for my LL comment was that it just seems that there are an inordinate number of Mariners fans here - either people who like the M’s first and Dbacks second, or vice versa - just as there seem to be an inordinate number of British fans.

Yes, it was what I was referring to
and now I know you’ll be checking up on my references! LOL
It’s just a different feel here than at LL; and I like it much better!

Agreed.
I have been to other sites where the female population is just not welcome, and I am glad to say that there are only a few times that I’ve been unwelcome here…and those times aren’t from my gender, but from things I’ve said.
So yeah, thanks guys.

Wait a minute...
You are girls? :O what are you doing on here? shouldn’t you be off cooking Mark Reynolds something? ;)
Jokes Jokes :)
Seriously joking aside, I hardly even notice gender most of the time. We’re all baseball fans first and foremost and quite frankly most of the women on this site know more about the team then a great majority of the men!
At the end of the day as long as we respect each other here then its all good :)
So...time for another drink then?

I know!!
isn’t that such a woman thing to say??!
I second the not noticing the whole gender thing. We all are constantly admitting crushes. There’s no difference.

I concur.
In fact…. admitting that one has a crush on… say, CoJack, is probably more relevant to a baseball blog than… well, St. Penelope.
I think that as long as we don’t get sexually explicit, (ahem…. LL) then the ‘Pit will never have any problem with gender-related issues. And I don’t see that ever happening with Jim managing.

Oh yeah.....
and a corollary to this is that we should be okay, so long as we never have masses of 14 yr old boys joining the ‘Pit.

I LOVES the ladies
No, seriously, it’s all good to me. Another baseball place I keep an eye on is whitesoxinteractive, and they are very pro-active about keeping it anti-sexist there. To me, a sports fan or athlete isn’t defined by their gender, or any other variables that make them who they are, but instead by what they do.

Oh
and that Lookout Landing post has 1300+ comments? And it was put up just yesterday? Is there nothing else to do in Seattle?

Thanks for the kind words
I’d never really thought about it, but looking at the Gameday Thread yesterday, about 30% of the attendees were of the fairer sex. That does seem more than on most of the other forums I frequent, though I can’t really claim significant credit! But I do know that what matters to me is what you bring to the community, not your sex, race, religion, politics or sexual preference. [However, I reserve the right to poke fun at any of the above, and expect you to do exactly the same for me. I like my sacred cows medium-rare]
Any site like this is the basically the sum of its participants, so if this is a nice place to be, it’s each and every one of you who make it so. I just polish the glasses and keep the bowls full of peanuts. :-) Thanks in particular to all the authors and editors, whom I trust to keep things at the right level. Long may this continue.
