Day of Reckoning
I cannot believe I am saying this:
This team needs Eric Byrnes and not because of his locker room presence, veteran leadership, or that his television show is running out of material. But because the Diamondbacks own personal version of Orthrus (Romero & Burke) is hitting well below the Mendoza line.
We all know that Byrnes is overpaid and that we could have had someone else in LF but that ship has sailed. Right now the D-Backs are sinking faster than the HMS Ontario and the only life jacket in sight is Eric Byrnes.
Can Byrnes give us anything? What can we expect from him here on out? What is the bare minimum line we need from him to compete for the Pennant? Is being married screwing up his game? (They said it about Tiger)
Now making fun of Byrnes was/is easy because that well ran deep (intangibles, pop outs, double plays, etc.) but he is our best option in LF for better or worst. From this point forward I am going to try and be more patient* with EB.
*Still reserving the right to boo but will try not to post as many sarcastic posts about Byrnes. However, Micah Ownings consider yourself warned as you are on deck to become my new whipping boy.

Possibly some of the best tags ever for a fanpost there. Well done.
Yeah, I didn’t think we’d be looking forward to Byrnes coming off the DL. But, hey, maybe the time off will do him some good? He’s supposed to give us one good half of the season, now is a good time to get it!

What’s foulpole to do if our options in left are Byrnes or CoJack?

Well
that’s an easy call for him. I’m more interested in who he would want starting if Randy or one of our other starters gets injured and Scherzer can’t go. Would his head explode if EdGon rejoined the rotation??

EdGon please......
We could go out and sign Mike Scott. His strong veteran arm is exactly what we need and since he hasn’t pitched since 1991 he will be well rested.
In fact why are we even waiting for an injury? Give me Scott STAT

Byrnes
I don’t have a problem with Byrnes. OK, maybe I think he showboats a little with his summersault throws and headfirst slides into first base, but he is trying. I can’t blame Byrnes for accepting $30M when someone is stupid enough to give it to him. And I don’t blame Byrnes if Melvin doesn’t have the guts to bench him when he is injured.
Yes, I think Byrnes is our best right handed option in left field when he is healthy. I hesitatantly look forward to his return (hesitantly because I’m sure Melvin won’t have the guts to platoon him). Geez, if he can just play good defense and hit .260 with a little pop it will be an improvement.
