How many K's for Mad Max?
Are we getting ahead of ourselves? Probably, but damn it Mad Max is making his first MLB start and this something to get fired up about. Chase Field is going to transform into "Thunderdome". I am just glad he isn't a knuckleball pitcher or this wouldn't be nearly as much fun.
Also, anyone have good lines that are dying to use? I mean the quotes that could come from "Thunderdome" alone might need an overflow thread.
Two Men Enter, One Man Leave.

According to the story below, Max was named for a cat his dad had in college and that they planned all along if they got married and had a child, they’d name him Max.
I voted for 7-10 strikeouts so I wouldn’t jinx him!

I'm keeping restrained here
They’ll be keeping his pitch-count down, probably about 90 pitches. If that gets him through six innings, I’ll be happy with that, and figure eight strikeouts would be about the most we can hope for.

The question is...
What now?
The good news is, Doug Davis threw 65 pitches in a simulated game today, so the next step for him is Tucson and rehab, from what they were saying. I’m thinking we’ll need two or three more starts out of the #5 spot before he returns. Not scoped out the schedule yet. Since it’s clear he is not the second coming of Tim Lincecum quite yet, do we keep Scherzer in there, and risk his bell getting runs a few more times? Or would that be potentially fatal to a young psyche? Discuss…

I would feel a lot better offering an opinion here had EdGon not giving up almost as many runs today, despite the solid first two frames.
The schedule is fairly lenient, but it will require at least four more starts from the 5 hole unless somebody goes on short rest. There are days off on the 12th and 19th, followed by a solid stretch until June 5. Ideally, that means we’d see DD back sometime around the Atlanta series, but it’s hard to say how many starts he’ll need before coming back up. Along with the rehab, two starts in AAA would put him about on that pace.
At present, Max is slotted to take on the Cubs in the Saturday afternoon game on the 10th, which will be “nationally” televised. Not exactly a welcome respite from the Phillies’ lineup.
Assuming the rotation stays in order…

If DD could make the 24th against the Braves, I guess that’d be ideal. Either way, I can’t imagine Scherzer starting against the Cubs and getting knocked around a bit would be a terrible hit to the psyche. Probably on par with getting flip-flopped with EdGon again.

And yes, for the record...
I have no idea why I was up this late.

According to...
The Republic today, “Davis, who threw 65 pitches in a simulated game Monday, hopes he can return to the Diamondbacks rotation for the May 20-22 series at Florida, but he said he isn’t going to rush things.” Since he threw yesterday, I am thinking rehab starts in Tucson on or around the 10th and 15th, and he’d be ready to the Florida series. If that is the case, we may shuffle other starters back to make room, and give them an extra day off.
