Who leaves first?
I was just bored and thinking about our current personnel. We have 8 solid major league starters at every position all of which will probably be coming with a hefty contract someday. My question is who do you think will be gone first. Obviously O-Dawg is more than likely gone and EB will be done after 2011, so that leaves let's say 7 players that we'd love to see stay but will potentially not be with us within 5 years: Drew, Reynolds, CoJack, Upton, Young, Micah, Snyder, Miggy, Tracy (yeah I know that's 9, I kept coming up with names). Who's gone in the near future who stays? This is kind of a depressing thought process I'm asking of you, but it's a good off day discussion.
In my opinion I don't see Drew sticking around too long. He's played great but he'll more than likely be asking for much more money than we're willing to pay, plus he's very low on the list of priorities. I hate to say it but after his contract is up I don't think Drew will be with us any longer.

P.S.
I thought this went well with the depressing mood and the storm cloud hanging over our heads recently. God I could use a series win.

EB 's contract done after 2010, not 2011
Lets not drag this out any more than necessary. ;)

I'll drive Byrnes to the airport.

Do you mean in the manner of someone who drives a taxi or someone who drives cattle?

Was thinking more along the lines of a taxi
but after 3 years it might end up being just a bus ticket.

I would agree
that Drew looks like the most likely to leave. Honestly, he’s been solid this year and his rookie year, but on the balance, he hasn’t really lived up to his draft billing and his hype. Add to that the fact that his agent is Scott Boras, and (you have only to look at his brother for confirmation of this) somehow, he’s probably going to squeeze million$ more than his performance is worth, from SOME team. Since the Dbacks make a habit of not overpaying (when Josh Byrnes is running things rather than J. Mo), I have a feeling we’ll be saying goodbye to Droo. If we can resign him for a fair price, or even extend him, (unlikely, given that Satan Incarnate is his agent) then I’d love to see him return to the Sedona red. It just doesn’t seem very likely to me.

chinks in the Boras armor
Hopefully we can be added to the recent list of Boras failings including Lohse, Wilkerson, and A-Rod.

Seems unlikely,
but it’d be great to add Stephen Drew and Max Scherzer…

How is ARod a chink in Boras' armor?
Part of being an agent is saying whatever it takes to get your client the money. Part of that is making outrageous demands with the understanding that you may not get all of it.
ARod may not have gotten all the money Boras said he’d get, but he did end up signing the largest contract in baseball history from a team and owner that had previously said they wouldn’t deal with him.

Didn't ARod undermine Boras by basically going behind his back?
C’mon, he was going to get the largest contract in history anyway, and the Yanks saying they wouldn’t talk to him was just posturing. Many journalists at the time described the semi-debacle as ARod “firing” Boras.

A-Rod is a chink in Boras’ armor b/c A-Rod ended up chucking Boras—both his strategy and his negotiating when A-Rod realized he might actually be leaving town if he took such a hard line with the new Steinbrenner. A-Rod was the one who got this deal done, not Boras.

Does Scott Boras ever sleep?
It seems like every player that needs a new contract has Boras as his agent or switch to him.
Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?

Funniest line of the playoffs last year
Over on another board I read the following line after Stephen Drew hit a playoff homer:
“Every time a Drew hits a homer, Scott Boras’ daughter gets another pony”

+1!
I assume that was on DBBP?
