Snyder heating up
I've got to give a lot of credit to Chris Snyder's performance lately. When Snyder made an adjustment late last year he started showing some offense. What I saw last year made me think he could be a sleeper in this year's fantasy draft. After a slow start to the season, Snyder has really picked up his game. Anyone would be glad to take .279/.387/.471 from the catching slot. Just wish Montero didn't get so much pt.

Preaching to the choir here... :-)
Yep, after a horrific first ten games, Snyder has really come on. I’ve been suggesting he needs to get moved back up the lineup a few notches. Though Montero is batting .333/.394/.467, so hasn’t been exactly failing at the plate. Snyder is on pace for about 80 RBI, and if he gets his power stroke back, will become even more formidable.

I would definitely
take 80 RBIs from the catcher’s spot. And since Montero has started even hotter, we could have the best catcher’s spot in the league. Screw you, Russell Martin.

Snyder/Montero
I think the team is lucky to have two good catchers that can hit, and I’m very happy with a 60-40 playing time split. (Montero has only started 7 of 17 games since he returned) It keeps everyone fresh. If Snyder were catching 135-140 games, he’d probably wear down and get tired. I don’t know that he’d wear down for certain, but MOST catchers do…...even though there are a few exceptions.
Also, Montero is 8 for 25 with 4 doubles and 2 walks and 6 runs scored in his 7 starts. It’s not like he is hurting the team when he is in there. He is a helping alot.

Concur.
Miggy is very quickly gaining most-favored role player status in my ledger – occupying the place once held by the Cardinal legend.
While Upton makes me happiest to have on the roster, a part of me does find it more satisfying to get behind a solid player with occasional flashes of greatness than a potential, or even actual, superstar.
Of course, this means that Montero will be traded away within a season or two. See my last three most favorite Diamondbacks: Quentin, Kim and Durazo.

Cardinal legend = Q, I assume?
I always liked Kim too, but can you really blame us for trading him? Durazo didn’t end up doing a lot either…. he was, somehow, the one player that Billy Beane threw away his moneyball philosophy for, IIRC.

Actually, I can blame us for trading Kim.
We traded him when he was 24 and prior to that his numbers were:
Age – IP – K- BB – ERA+
21 – 70 – 111 – 46 – 159
22 – 98 – 113 – 44 – 224
23 – 84 – 92 – 26 – 141
24 – 43 – 33 – 15 – 131
He went on to be injured and lose his effectiveness, but he profiled as an all-star caliber pitcher. That’s not even mentioning that he was traded for Shea ####### Hillenbrand – an older, average offensive third baseman with a lead glove.
Durazo made sense to trade – he was a quintessential dh – I just have to believe that they could have gotten more than Elmer “5.07” Dessens. It’s moves like that that make me appreciate JB. Dessens was coming off a 3.03 ERA season that any analyst could see from a mile away was driven by more luck than skill.
Also, Durazo was a perfect Moneyball guy for Beane – a high OBP guy with medium pop and enough warts to be picked up on the cheap. I still loved the hell out of the guy.

“Durazo was invited to 2007 spring training by the Athletics, where he played well, but was released before the start of the season. He joined Sultanes de Monterrey of the Mexican League. On July 17, 2007, Durazo signed a minor league contract with the Yankees, playing in 29 games for their Triple-A team. Durazo became a free agent at the end of the season.”
