Need to win this one, folks: I do not want to find us tomorrow, needing Johnson to beat Zambrano to avoid the sweep. A large part will depend on how Scherzer is: do we get Good Max or Bad Max today? In his two appearances so far, we've seen both; there's no doubting he throws hard, but he needs to be able to throw at least one other pitch for a strike, in order to have any success, even the second time through the order. This Cubs' offense is not bad, but none of them have ever faced Scherzer before, obviously.
Might see Hudson back in the lineup today: hopefully, he'll be feeling 100%, because if not, I'd rather he take the extra day-off and let Ojeda start. This game is going to be televised nationally on Fox, though Al at BCB says the game will only be seen in 37% of the country: clearly some new definition of "nationally" I wasn't previously aware of. I would not be surprised if the same two teams end up meeting in the NLDS once again this year. I trust the result will be the same. :-)
Not sure if I'll be about much. I have no major plans, but I am feeling pretty sick stiil: my voice is slightly better, but you do not want to know what I have been coughing up. Let's just say, Stephen King will be turning it into a novel, and John Carpenter is interested in the film rights. Any comments from me will therefore be between bouts of coughing and wheezing. Let's go, D-backs.

Are we in that 37%?
Eric Byrnes - 3 years, 30 million with a NTC: 88 GS, 353 AB, 9 HR, 27 SB, 13 GIDP, .238/.310/.385 (.695 OPS) EB is exactly who we thought he was!

This is the 4th time this year that I won't be able to watch the D'Backs on "national" t.v.
Fox is the only channel that does this. I don’t see TBS or TNT broadcasting certain sporting events for certain regions.
Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?
National TV or not
And it is SO random. When the Rockies played the DBacks, our local station out of Albuquerque showed the —wait for it -- Yankees and Red Sox!! Given that Albuquerque is about equidistant from Denver and Phoenix, and that it’s in an part of the country that is considered by the powers that be in MLB to reside in the Rockies area, it should have had the Rockies-DBacks game. IMHO.

TBS does do this
I missed the Mets game last week because it was blacked out.

I’ll actually get to see a game on TV! What a rarity! Of course, I had to move several hundred miles for it to happen. =)
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
SO?
That doesn’t seem too drastic to me! It’s the Diamondbacks, for heaven’s sake. If you have to move to see them play, then you do so.

The game is on in the valley then?

apparently being 4 hours from Chicago is out of their fanbase. I get the Cards and Brewers instead!!!!

game notes from yahoo
The Diamondbacks absorbed their lowest run output of the season in Friday’s 3-1 loss at Chicago, mustering four hits. Arizona entered the game first in the major leagues in runs with 201 in 35 games – an average of 5.7. ... Two days after being involved in a collision with Philadelphia OF Shane Victorino in a play at first base, 1B Conor Jackson returned to the lineup, going 0-for-2 with two walks. ... After losing back-to-back games just twice in April, the Diamondbacks have dropped five of their first eight contests in May. Arizona has been outscored, 31-13, in those defeats.

Randy's gonna
have to have his “A” game if he is to stop the sweep tomorrow.
I’m not sure why we’re sacrificing Max out there today.
Would be a good day to go ride the National Trial in South Mountain. Later!

I know the feeling
I’m used to looking out my window and seeing mountain ranges within five miles on every side of me. They’re so far away in Phoenix.

Well, la-dee-freakin-da!
Byrnes is always running or jumping into things for exaggerated reasons. He is Matt Foley!

Single for Snyder
Two on, two outs, come on, guys…
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Ack
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Augie! Augie! Augie!
Nice play!
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
No damage done
Thanks to Augie, and bad baserunning by Ramirez. Let’s go, offense!
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Nice play by Augie
Why do I get the feeling that had Hudson been in the game, that two out pop up would have ended up as a collision…
0 for 3?
Come on, Scherzer’s due!
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
I remember last year against the Cubs,
we had the same situation and someone went home and a ball hit to the shortstop. We didn’t score and we ended up loosing the game.
Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?
That was a nice at bat from Scherzer
Was 0-2, worked up to a full count and fouled off a couple of pitches.
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Ugh...
MLB.tv national blackout and the game we get on Fox here in Oklahoma is the Tardinal game.

Another wasted baserunner
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Augh
The run should be charged to Upton.
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Thwart the stolen base
But an annoying inning regardless.
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
That'd help make up for it
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
At least his defence is better than it was last year.
We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.
K to end the inning for Scherzer
Come on, guys! Let’s get the offense going!
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Oh, not even close.

Hopefully Wood and Marol will be tired enough where we can score runs
Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?
Aw, Augie
Can we get the team that looked so comfortable on the field a few weeks ago?
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Wow!
What a throw by Upton!
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Well,
Good news is that I think that may atone for his prior miscue.
Bad news: we’re still down by one.
Let's hope Dempster makes one mistake, that gets hit out of the park.
Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?
Augie with a lead-off single
Make it happen, guys!
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Excellent
Two on, no outs!
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Big opportunity here....
Bases loaded, one out. Come on, J-Up…
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Full count...
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Walk!
Tie game, and the bases loaded for Iron Man!

That's a lead!
And Reynolds nearly beat that out.

Oh yeah, I was thinkning meatpuppet
I watch/read too much SF
We will meet in Red 3 at the hour of scampering.
DBBP
With DBBP down I want to join and say Hi.. and thanks to Jim for hosting two great DBack boards.
Kyle
Great inning from Scherzer
1-2-3
Let’s get some more offense and give him his first win in the majors.
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Afternoon, ladies and gents.
Just got back from watching Johan and the Metropolitans beat the Reds at Shea with Silverblood and Russ from PR, and I see Max has tossed a hella good game so far.
Max Scherzer is all out of bubblegum.
Upton’s managed to allow and prevent a run today, so I’m giving him a waiver on the day.
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Cubs had the bases loaded, one out, they hit fly ball out to Upton, and he fired a nigh-perfect shot to Snyder to nail the runner at home.
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Nice.
We knew the kid has a cannon for an arm, it’s just been a question of him learning how to fire it accurately.
Max Scherzer is all out of bubblegum.
By the way,
I would imagine that getting HBP by Max Scherzer prolly hurts like a bitch.
Max Scherzer is all out of bubblegum.
Yeah.
With a fastball like his, I imagine he’ll be another enforcer, like RJ or Pwnings.
Max Scherzer is all out of bubblegum.
Augie Ojeda:
the first player since Ted Williams to bat over .400 in a season?
Max Scherzer is all out of bubblegum.
Nice to see Byrnes riding the pine today.
On another note, I REALLY like Augie leading off…...
Max Scherzer is all out of bubblegum.
Someone get that man a gunblade!
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
I spent the morning Final Fantasy XII, so it was the first thing that came to mind for me.

On a side note,
Santana got the win and pitched a pretty good game today, but oddly, his fastball seemed slow. I don’t think he topped 91 MPH for any pitch on the day.
Max Scherzer is all out of bubblegum.
Ack
Tie game. I really wanted Scherzer to get the win.
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
LOL
They’re not with me now, I’m back in the Village and they stayed at Shea for the 2nd game of the doubleheader.
Max Scherzer is all out of bubblegum.
Cool! You got to meet them?

Yeah. They were already planning on hitting the game,
so Russ just picked up an extra ticket for me.
Max Scherzer is all out of bubblegum.
Dangit
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."

Qualls is not pitching his best today.
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
That ad always makes me laugh
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
Our first series in being swept will happen less than 24 hours from now.
Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?
Screw this game,
it’s time for some Gilmore Girls.

It'll be nice to get a left-handed power surge,
from both the batting and pitching side.
Max Scherzer is all out of bubblegum.
I think these guys can turn it around.
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
I don't think there is alot to turn around
We’ve just had a couple of injuries and a mini drop in form. I don’t think we have alot to worry about to be honest
Tomorrow.

Taco Bell: Answering the questions you never bothered to ask, like, “Hey, what happened to Adam Corolla?”
"Look, I'm not a financial expert or anything, but I'm pretty sure that a zeppelin is an excellent investment opportunity."
I always liked him more than Jimmy Kimmel. Maybe because I heard him on Loveline first- that was an interesting show.
Then, yesterday, I found out Adam Corolla is on the radio in the mornings in Phoenix. So, now I know.
