Baseball-Reference.com preview [opens in new window]

Just a quick post here: wanted to do a bit more, but time ran out [actually, one of our other websites got hacked, so been clearing that up all my spare time this morning!] Couple of quick stats. Even as we lead the league with 6.25 runs/game, we haven't been particularly lucky or clutch. Our batting average on balls in play is .284, slightly below the NL average at .289; and with runners in scoring position, we're just hitting .254, only fractionally above the league mean of .250. That's fine by me: those kind of things tend to even out over the course of a season.

The series in our pocket, Micah goes to the hill. The last couple of days have been a bit of an emotional roller-coaster for the team, I've no doubt: be nice to finish off another sweep of a divisional rival though. Kuroda was, however, pretty much as advertised last time out, and I don't expect it to be easy. On the other hand. I though starting Davis last night was a bad idea, so what do I know? :-) My commenting will be limited, due to work, but I'll pop in during my lunch-break and see how things are going.

soco's keys to the game

1) watch a couple innings before work
2) eat lunch
3) blame Melvin for everything ;-)
4) dessert?

love O-dawg but didn't Reynolds come up as a 2B? Before I dropped $15M on Dawg, I'd move Reynolds back to 2B. Of course there are some huge 'ifs' here. Like will Tracy ever play 3B again? Will Reynolds be open to a move back to 2B?

by jweech on Apr 9, 2008 3:12 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

O-Dawg's D has a lot of value. Especially with a team that has ground ball pitchers.

I'm not so sure that Reynolds would be able to come very close to that level of D at 2b.

Anyone going to the game?

What's up with the day game on a Wednesday? Actually, I'm glad as the Suns battle the Spurs tonight and that will required my undivided attention.

Go Micah and go D-backs!

by TwinnerA on Apr 9, 2008 2:50 PM EDT   0 recs

I suppose the question would be,....

Which one would you prefer to be the receiver? Duncan, Parker or Ginobli? (I would say Horry, but thats just personal after last year and wouldnt benefit the team as much.. heh).

All the best Brits support the Diamondbacks!

by AZDarkKnight on Apr 9, 2008 2:52 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

All 3

They'd fall one after another like dominos.

by TwinnerA on Apr 9, 2008 3:02 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

that would be pretty nice.

by jsk6788 on Apr 9, 2008 3:04 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Ginobili.

Every day and twice on Sundays.

I may not like Duncan, but I respect his game.

by Azreous on Apr 9, 2008 3:28 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I can't stand that guy

YUCK. He makes me so angry.

I'm a pretty laid back guy, and I don't get all worked up over a whole lot, but when I watch him play, he just makes me furious. ESPECIALLY when he whines and flops.

*shudder*

by bcloirao on Apr 9, 2008 3:31 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Duncan

In Duncan's opinion he has never once committed a foul with those saucer eyes he shows when called for one.

by TwinnerA on Apr 9, 2008 3:56 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Jim

I'm curious what our SLG% for balls put in play and our RISP SLG% might be. I would think that this would be the main cause of insane run production with your mentioned stats running in the middle of the pack.

by AZSEAfan on Apr 9, 2008 3:09 PM EDT   0 recs

A lot of solo dings may not show much in the RISP numbers. Does balls in play include bombs?

by foulpole on Apr 9, 2008 3:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Marky Mark

is going to have to get is avg up if he is going to contend for the triple crown this year...

Just kidding. Although, I wouldn't mind if he kept up the HR and RBI totals.

by bcloirao on Apr 9, 2008 3:22 PM EDT   0 recs

I just want him to stay on his current HR pace. I would love to see anyone get the HR record back from the Roider. I know...very wishful thinking.

A-Rod

Will do it soon enough.

Wouldn't it be sweet irony if the season he is about to do so, Canseco's allegations about HIM (in the new book) come to be proved?

I would officially call Canseco "The Harbinger of Doom" for the rest of my life.

by bcloirao on Apr 9, 2008 3:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

do you thing the Hall would give Canseco an honorary bust in Cooperstown? Assuming he was correct about A-rod of course.

by jweech on Apr 9, 2008 3:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Only

That would be fine, as long as it included a thin, curly moustache, a weasely face, and glasses.

I imagine something along the lines of "Bowler Hat Guy" from Meet the Robinsons (random reference I know, but perfect in my mind).

by bcloirao on Apr 9, 2008 3:38 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I was thinking more along the lines of John Turturos character in the Big Lebowski.

by seton hall snake pit on Apr 9, 2008 3:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Thats an interesting point

I had a discussion about this with a friend of mine the other day (Yankees fan).

I really don't dislike any of the Yankees players. Is there any one of them that you wouldn't be happy to have sign with the D-backs? (besides Clemens, who isn't even a Yankee anymore)

I just dislike the Yankees as a collective. And really only because they spend so much money that it screws up the game.

by bcloirao on Apr 9, 2008 3:43 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I agree

in fact I very much like Derek Jeter

A-Rod won't hit 73.

I actually think that, barring rule changes, nobody will ever break that record again. He has a chance to pass the career record, tho.
