What shall we call Byrnes?
There's an epidemic raging in our threads - an epidemic of competing nick-names for Eric Byrnes. In the tradition of benevolent dictatorship that has made the Snakepit great, it is time for the not-quite-sovereign people to speak.
Since I'm here, I'll start : "Hacksie." It maintains a connection to the rather lame, but at least familiar, "Byrnsie" and references his most salient characteristic - the fanatical, single-minded determination to swing mightily at every pitch thrown his way. Sometimes they're whacked for doubles, sometimes they go sailing past into the catcher's mitt, but whatever happens he can always proudly claim that he took a hack. (Called strikes are for pitchers!)
Please propose other candidates in the comments...

I'm going with Bam Bam. He kinda looks like him and when he connects he crushes the ball.
He's also a little over caffinated, kinda like a bull in a china shop.
I think it fits.

flower?
I voted for Byrnsie - Although I reserve the right to change my vote to Hacksie..... but I have to give him some props after tonight's game.

As a nickname for EB,
NOT this. Just avoiding confusion. He's NOT my favorite by any means.

That was a bit harsh
I concede - but since every post was throwing out a new possibility, it seemed that Byrnesie was losing favour fast. (And someone did call it lame in the thread, just not me.)
Personally, the only one that totally horrifies me is "Flower." People were tossing around "Bambi" for Upton, too... I mean, seriously, is this the Snakepit or GLB?

I wasn't referring to your poll
you know that, right?
To be a clone of GLB, we need two or three MySpace references and something about mythical horses with one horn.

For a reffrence to Flower
I joked that Drew's nickname should be Thumper, being a joke about his often less than stellar power numbers. Secondly, it was a joke on Bible Thumper, even if I have no proof of the Drew family being particularly Bible Thumping, like say the Detroit Lion's Jon Kitna, but it was still a bit funny to me at the time.
So it was proposed to me, who would be Flower, the Skunk. I proposed Byrnes, as he's always dirty.
I didn't really see this as a joke that caught anyone's attention and don't advocate as a full time nick name, despite the fact it's leading the poll (at the time of me reading it)
I'd be a fan of Sir Flips a Lot, or Dances with K's, but, neither of those would catch on outside of my head.

And just to finish up
Upton would be Bambi: long legs, and the young prince of the forest. This doesn't bode well for his mother though. :-)

FLIPPER!!!! How Perfect....
Shoewizard on the dbbp has a link to a really cool photo shop picture of EB imposed on a dolphin. Look on any topic for one of shoes postings and click the link at the very bottom.

I've taken a liking to the Alchemist, in a similar manner to Mark Reynolds being Special K. As I said in the Gameday thread yesterday, Byrnes is quite an alchemist- he may not turn lead to gold, but he can turn Ball 4 into a pop-out.
Yeah, but no actual *helpful* suggestions.

Didn't
his name used to be Pigpen? I prefer Flipper for his stupid throws.

Sutton and Grace tried Pigpen
but he apparently didn't like it so that went away.

It's been a long time but the one with Ryan O'neil and Barbara Strisand (sp?).
Did she call him Bynesie?

Back when he was on the A's
We always called him Byrnesie so that's what I go with. I know when he played winter ball his nickname is "Capitan America" so we could always go with that...

My vote for Byrnesie
Though I have to say that he sure does kinda look and act (overly energetic) like Bam Bam.

Ok, late addition ...
Mr. Byrnes ... And every time he does something good, we scowl behind our monitors, put our palms together, and tap our fingertips together while slowly releasing from between our lips a reptilian-like 'Exxxcelent' ...
And of course, during his inevitable hacks ... 'BLAST YOU, ERIC!!'
