by Muu on Apr 30, 2008 7:08 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Actually, no...

Willie Smith debuted in 1963, and then hit 11 homers in 1964, while also pitching in 15 games for the Angels.

He did also play in the outfield.

by Jim McLennan on Apr 30, 2008 7:24 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not to be a downer, but....

I hadn’t really given it a thought until my friend that loves the Giants asked, “Have the Dbacks played a team with a winning record?” and now that I look at it, it is sort of a depressing “no”

This can be looked at two ways:

1. the Dbacks are way overrated because they have started with a weak schedule
2. the west is beating the crap out of each other and thus making it tough to have a winning record.

I am thinking it more of the second option, but in a way does it matter? If the west sucks and the Dbacks own the west, then so be it, but I think the next 10 games will be interesting (NYM, PHI and Cubs) to see how they stack up.

I did not really get into the other teams records against East and Central, but I do know that the Dodgers were swept by ATL but the Giants really beat up on Cards. I guess we have a lot of season to figure out who is legit or not.

I just figured I would throw it out there to see what you all thought (although you are obviously biased like myself).
