All Star Game
I see that we can already start voting for players for the All Star Game. Obviously, we'll vote the all-DBacks slate; but who do you think has the best chance of 1) going to the game and 2)starting? Given the mostly East Coast focus of MLB coverage; it will be hard for the DBacks to attract votes from fans who don't have a chance to see them or hear about them as often as they might hear about other teams. Which player, if anybody, has the best chance of catching on with fans of other teams? Enough to get a DBack starting in the game?

Wow. This seems too early to start the voting. It may result in people voting based upon last year’s performance even more than it usually does and based on three weeks of games.
It just makes the All-Star game even more meaningless.

As opposed to normally, where they vote by popularity?

Wait! Meaningless???
Are you kidding – Home field for the WORLD SERIES – the pinnacle of the whole baseball season is riding on this meaningless, exhibition game.
FORGET the other 162 games….. What a JOKE – eh, commissioner?

Bud is a douche. With the idiotic DH the only fair way to do it is to alternate year to year. NL one year AL another etc.

I also wouldn’t mind if home field advantage went to the league that had the best over-all record in inter-league play.

How about this....
we play 162 games for a reason…. Team with the best record in either league gets home field advantage.
Not sure why baseball has complicated this one.

Well, since there are totally different rules involved (the only sport that I’m aware of that does) between the two leagues, it’s an entirely different game depending on the park that they are playing in (NL=real baseball .. AL=DH).
Since each league builds their roster with the rules in mind, I don’t think that it’s real fair to do it any other way than to alternate.

Many young and/or excitable and/or stupid internet users
follow emphatic statements with a long series of exclamation points. Because the exclamation point and the digit “1” share the same key, sloppy writing often results in 1’s getting mixed in with the punctuation. It’s become a bit of a nerdy online inside joke, like “teh”.
For example:
O MY GOD TEH PADRES WERE LOSING SO i TOTALY DESIDED 2 GO DO MYSPACE INSTEAD LOLZ!!!!!!!
!!
!!
—Possible post from GLB
I always insert the word “one” to make sure nobody thinks I’m a total idiot. If they wanna find that out, they can just read the content of my posts.

“Skins, you can explain the reference of !!!11…and so on. But let me just say that it MIGHT be found on GLB in a non-snark reference.

What don’t you understand about it? We were using it to make fun of the sales pitch of “This time it counts!” ‘Skins was acting like an overenthusiastic poster about how important the All-Star game is.
Your comment of: “Since each league builds their roster with the rules in mind, I don’t think that it’s real fair to do it any other way than to alternate” is very obviously the truth of the matter. To make the All Star Game the deciding factor is mere marketing and a way to make us forget the year they tied. So by responding with the !!! 11 1!!!, ‘Skins denigrates Bud’s falseness in marketing and makes it seem like we totally believe him.
Does this help your understanding of it? We’re snarky about it, that’s the bottom line; and I liked the way “Skins made fun of the slogan.

Our one represenative this year
will probably be Brandon Webb.

Hurdle is the NL Manager. Perhaps he will add some DBacks to the team, since he is more familiar with them?

Like that thought ...
It’s where I felt Byrnes got burned out of a appearance last year, because of LaRussa knowing Rowand from more games in division.

Webb will be out there, and I think we’ll get at least one more. Maybe Upton?
If we only have Webb on the roster, I’ll be forced to go back to my signature from the start of the season.

but it’s far too early to tell.

If we have the best record in the NL
there is no way we only have 1 All-Star. Hudson will probably be the backup 2B to Utley and I think we will get one more pitcher on the squad.
I’m saying we get three.

I think having Hurdle pick the backups gives us slightly better odds to have multiple players than we would get with someone from the NL Central or NL East.

I think we may have a few pitchers there
Webb will be there. If Haren continues to win I think he is there too. Then you also have to look at Qualls and Lyon. Qualls has an ERA of 0.00 right now and is unbeatable.

Micah Owings?
He’s getting lots of national media attention for his hitting exploits. If he can turn in some decent pitching numbers? Nah, the fans don’t vote for the pitchers…
