Get Miggy with it
Miggy was called up and Romero optioned to Tucson today. I like that we have three catchers on the roster as we can now use Miggy as a PH and not have to worry about using our last catcher.
Thoughts?

I concur.
The boys in Sedona Red slugged it out with a pretty pesky poltergeist, then stayed on to dance the night away with some of the lovely ladies who witnessed the disturbance.
Agreed
Hammock wasn’t half bad in the limited action he got, even getting his first RBI since 1843 the other day.
To paraphrase Robert S. on another page...
Management needs to tell Randy is personal catcher fetish to shove it.
Hammock is dead weight on this roster. Answer this, how many times have you ever seen a team use their back up catcher to pinch hit in the late innings and then get caught with their pants down with an injury? Personally, I have never seen it happen and the one in a thousand chance that it might happen does not necessitate us to keep a player who hasn’t posted a major league OPS+ over 78 since 2003.
Versatility is worthless if you can’t hit or can’t play an up the middle position like Burke. At least Romero is left handed and has yet to prove he can’t hit major league pitching. Hammock, unfortunately, had proved beyond all doubt that he can’t. He’s that ex-girlfriend that you know is bad for you, but you keep going back to time and time again. Byrnes needs to stage an intervention and save Melvin from himself.

Management needs to tell Randy to take his personal catcher fetish to shove it.
Why so negative?
I don’t see the problem here.
Romero is surplus to requirements, in the sense that we already have a left handed reserve outfielder. And Hammock is hitting about 70 points better than Snyder at the moment.
Agreed
Also Romero needs the at bats at AAA alot more the Nobbie Hammock who has shown that he can rake at AAA. No point holding up Alex’s development time but sitting him on a bench
Good move in my estimation
Especially
since he’s taken up a roster spot for all of 10 ABs so far.
It’s good to have another lefty on the bench with (unlike ARom) some demonstrated major league power.

Dude....
that ex-girlfriend analogy cuts deep. :-\

Bottom Line
Thats 25 more starts, 100 Plate Appearances that DON’T go to Miguel Montero or Chris Snyder, assuming that Hammock is indeed assigned as RJ’s personal catcher and RJ actually makes 25 more starts.
If in fact, Hammock is not designated RJ’s personal catcher, and does not get regular starts every 5th game, then it’s not so big a deal. However as Dahlian pointed out, the actual instances where having the 3rd catcher really comes into play are so rare as to make this a pretty weak reason to give Hammock a roster spot.
The line from the org is that Romero needs to play more, but I’m sure if you asked him, he’d rather be riding the bench in Phoenix than joining up with a 3-17 AAA team.
The real question though is what happens when Tracy comes back. My guess is they are just rewarding Robbie with a couple extra weeks on the roster. If Tracy comes back by the second week in May, who else can they send down? It’s got to be Hammock anyway.
Isn't Hammock
out of options?

That was my thought
After all, he’s been around for ever. But Nick P said in the Republic that both Hammock and Romero had options left.

Tracy
You hit the nail on the head with the Tracy thing shoe, both Hammock and Romero will be in AAA once he’s ready to join the big league club anyway. Salazar will be the extra left handed bat for now, and his AB’s are likely to dry up significantly as well since they will be looking to get Tracy in everywhere possible.
Tracy is still probably two to three weeks away. While Romero did a good job in his limited action while up with the big club, I’d much rather have Miggy getting any PAs that would have otherwise gone to Alex.
Hammock’s presence on the roster makes Miggy more valuable since we have that third catcher. Romero’s presence, as a 6th or 7th OF, doesn’t really add value to any other member of the squad.
I’d be extremly surprised to see Robbie on the 25 man once Tracey returns but that’s still a ways down the road. I feel that this move is a no brainer.
You know the season is
off to a good start, when the biggest dilemma is who gets the 25th roster spot. Life is good for Snake fans.
IAWTC
and wish we would all sorta chill out over this.

Montero replaces Hammock
Link:
Melvin said people should get used to seeing catcher Miguel Montero behind the plate for left-hander Randy Johnson’s games. “I think it could be a good match for him (Montero),” Melvin said. “He can learn from him a little bit.”
