Upton and this park...

don't get along for fielding, do they..

by snakecharmer on Apr 14, 2008 11:33 PM EDT reply actions

J-Up's fielding doesn't go well with a lot of parks so far.

Some parks don't get along with Upton.

For example, baseball parks.

You should see him fielding at Grand Teton National Park, though. Great range.

His slide piece isn't anywhere near what is has been in the past but that happened in his 1st couple starts last year as well. He did get it worked out before he went on the DL. So I'm thinking that he'll be able to snap it off after a couple starts.

J-Up's first move on Rowand's hit was moving back. Then he moves in and he should have just let the ball drop in front of him for a single. But, he cheeses and it results in a double. Then O-Dawg makes a great play to erase Rowand for scoring position ( where he should never have been).

I'll take O-Dawg on a three year $36 mil extension. We need his D with all these other young guys figuring out how to play.

by foulpole on Apr 15, 2008 12:11 AM EDT reply actions

Unfortunately

I don't know that $12 mil a year is going to do it. O-Dawg wants to get paid.

you would hope

I think Utley got a 7yr $85M deal or something like that. That roughly breaks out to $12M/yr so you would think that ODawg could take that payday with ease.

I think the length of the contract would be interesting. He probably wants a longer term deal then a $$ deal. For example, he would take $10M/yr for 5 years instead of $12M/yr for 3

Well, what REALLY pissed me off...

...is the way it was "not about fairness", but it was "about the rules".

And then, when the referees get caught breaking NBA rules by gambling in casinos, the NBA responds by changing the rules.

"I was tied to a chair and he had a baseball bat. Pissing him off was the smart thing to do."

by DbacksSkins on Apr 15, 2008 12:22 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm NOT a huge Suns fan. I don't particularly like the NBA.

However, it DID offend my Arizonan sensitivities because I felt like the series was NOT honestly won by the Spurs.

And then when the whole scandal with the dirty refs came out, it was a complete double standard. That ticked me off even more.

Runner on third

Is VERY quick. Don't think he'd Jackson would have got him.

by Jim McLennan on Apr 15, 2008 12:55 AM EDT reply actions

Why the hell isn't CJ throwing home on that play?

Corner IFs should always throw to home in that situation.

Sheesh.

by foulpole on Apr 15, 2008 12:55 AM EDT reply actions

Because

He wouldn't have got him, the run would have scored and we'd still have had the bases loaded with no outs.

Should have been a double-play, if Qualls had been covering first.

by Jim McLennan on Apr 15, 2008 12:57 AM EDT up reply actions

debatable

think he could have got him

Yes, Qualls should have covered first -- another mistake

by dstorm on Apr 15, 2008 12:58 AM EDT up reply actions

In that situation a corner IF is supposed to throw home. Period. It's a force play at the plate.

You don't let that run score and have a very solid chance at a double play going 3-2-3.

by foulpole on Apr 15, 2008 1:01 AM EDT up reply actions

Only makes sense

If you know you can get the runner. If not, it's utterly pointless.

I know you hate Jackson, and everything he does, but you really should take the blinkers off occasionally.

by Jim McLennan on Apr 15, 2008 1:03 AM EDT up reply actions

It has nothing to do with my feelings toward CJ or any other player. That's the play you make in that situation. Period. End of story. It's fundamental baseball at it's finest.

by foulpole on Apr 15, 2008 1:06 AM EDT up reply actions

Finest?

Yes, make a throw that, in all likelihood, gets nobody out... That's the kind of play that puts the "mental" in fundamental. :-)
