Sweet!

WTG CARDS!

I despise

Buddy Ryan. Just for the record.

This world is not prepared for such an occasion.

Granted, they could be division champs at 8-8, but still.

Random story, though...

so, Sunday morning, I’m hanging out with this girl who’s a HUGE Steelers fan, right? And who, it just so happens, only recently got a TV. (She doesn’t have cable, either) I predict, correctly, that Steelers-Cowboys is probably the Fox national game. Excited to get a chance to watch the Steel Curtain, she checks the TV markets online to see.

Naturally, Arizona and Missouri are LITERALLY the ONLY TWO STATES broadcasting Cards-Rams rather than Steelers-Boys — and not even all of Missouri.

So, we had to watch the Cards instead, whom we both agreed were “kinda fun to watch this year”.

Cardinals crushed 47-7 in New England.

From the recap:

The most trouble the Patriots seemed to have with the snow came when Welker was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for making a snow angel just beyond the end line of the end zone after his touchdown as the Patriots jumped into a 28-0 lead with 1:52 left in the half.

Awwww. Cute!

by Jim McLennan on Dec 21, 2008 5:21 PM EST reply actions

Awesome

I understand the need to penalize people for “unsportsmanlike conduct”, but, in the end, it’s a game, and while the Cardinals (and their fans) may not have liked it, something like that just makes me laugh.

Made me laugh too

The Cards were freakin pathetic once again, it was either laugh at their ineptness or take up needlepoint.
The game day thread over at Revenge of the Birds was rather tame today. Not much to be said when it’s 21-0 before your team gets its first down.

Cards are just coasting through the end of the season.

They’re not used to the snow, either; not only are they a warm climate team, but they’re a warm climate team that plays in a dome.

All this having been said, I don’t quite understand why Warner was still in the game with the Cards down big and not really needing a W.

From the RotB post game wrap:
By halftime, Ben Graham had punted five times for 188 yards. The Cardinals’ offense would muster just 186 all game long.

The local fan base looks

to take another hit.

The very first HOME playoff game in franchise history is in danger of NOT selling out and the game could be blacked out locally!

The Vikings are also

NOT selling playoff tickets well.

Economy?

Coyotes seem to have a similar problem.

Granted, it’s the NHL. And they’re just on the playoff bubble. But it’s a good young team in a shiny venue, and they’re struggling mightily to draw.

I kinda wonder if Glendale as a whole is wearing thin as a location for sports stadiums.

by Azreous on Jan 2, 2009 11:16 PM EST up reply actions

Could very well be....

Two of my buddies who live in the east valley are not going to renew season tickets with the cards next season. Just tired of the drive. And while they will go downtown with me to watch the Roadrunner’s, they will not make the trip out to Glendale to see the Yotes, EVEN if I am driving and have free tickets.

Oh, come on

People have had to drive to Sun Devil for years to see the Cardinals- that’s hardly a central location. And passing up free tickets?

I'm not doubting you

I’m just saying that passing up free tickets because you have to drive to the other side of town is a stupid attitude.

And the Cardinals roll on

Defying expectations by beating the Falcons, in front of a sold-out [if not perhaps full stadium at Glendale. I was surprised. Were you surprised?

by Jim McLennan on Jan 3, 2009 8:28 PM EST reply actions

Honestly? Yes, as I wasn't sure

which team would show up today. Major props to the O Line today and apparently, we need to piss off Edge more to get him fired up like that. They had me worried coming out of half time, but once we picked up that 1st down late on 3rd and a mile, it was game over.
That place sounded like it was rockin! Hope we have reason to get that loud all baseball season too.

I don't recall which writer it was,

but one of the ESPN writers I was reading was extremely complimentary of the Cards’ crowd.

on azcentral.com tonight. The bandwagon is rolling along. I was there game one, Monday night against the Cowgirls, but it is nice to see the valley get behind a local team.
