Chris Snyder extended
ESPN, and other subsequently, are reporting this is now a done deal, pending a physical.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have reached preliminary agreement on a three-year, $14.25 million guaranteed contract extension with catcher Chris Snyder, a baseball source told ESPN.com. The deal...includes a fourth-year club option that could bring the overall value to more than $20 million. Snyder has four years of major league service, so Arizona is buying out two years of salary arbitration and his first year of free agency with the three guaranteed years. If the Diamondbacks exercise their club option for 2012, they'll buy out a second year of free agency as well.
Now confirmed by Nick P, with more specifics: "Snyder will receive salaries of $3 million in 2009, $4.75 million in '10 and $5.75 million in '11. The team option for 2012 is worth $6.75 million with a $750,000 buyout."

Good deal for you guys
Snyder is worth way more than that on the open market. I hope we can get Martin locked up on a similiar deal, though it will probably take more money.

who is miffed?
more important, why?
just curious
If you make every game a life-and-death thing, you're going to have problems. You'll be dead a lot.

Nah I didn't vote, I figured it would just skew the poll. ;-)
No D-backs fan should be miffed, Snyder is gonna be worth double what he’s actually paid over this deal.

Well, I have a feeling that the miffed fan might be saying to themself....
….“OMG SNYDER WHY, WE SHOOD HAVE SPENT THIS MONY ON RANDY JONSON”

Well you could have used him
but Snyder was gonna get paid this much in arbitration anyway.

Ya know
I honestly wondered that myself, for a minute or two! ;-)

I was wondering who voted "torches and pitchforks"
I know a guy who knows a guy who can problem get them a deal.
"That's a cop-out, and you know it, and it breaks my heart into a thousand pieces that we ain't gonna save America with your blog today."
Uh huh....
and then they kill you on the import costs — just like when we were trying to replace Chip Hale with a cheap windmill from Holland.

That was totally different!
It was a perfectly fine deal, except we would have had charged a bit more to make a few small modifications so the windmill could have been moved between each half-inning.

Good Deal
I’ll gladly take Snyder at this rate knowing that catchers are one of the more difficult positions to develop and free agent catchers are usually aging and overpriced.
I agree
Synder might not put up stellar offensive numbers but his defense and guard for the plate is few nd far between in this league! I’m pleased with this signing and think it works in favor of Chris.
WELCOME
TO THE ’PIT!!

I get the feeling "Excstatic" might not be enough.
I figure any man who can finish hat inning desearves some love. Just… saying.
That Greenie is SO HOT right now.
In honor of our catcher's new deal,
I propose we revisit a certain amusing incident that happened a few years back.

No complaints
Chris is currently a top 10 catcher and these numbers sound reasonable for his age 28, 29 and 30 seasons, on the grounds it’s not readily apparent Snyder would do better or worse via arbitration & FAgency. Chris is a big hombre and I’m a little concerned with his body type a couple years down the road, but he’s also blossomed into a consistent two-way cog. The deal, on the face of it, seems neither a bargain nor an albatross to me, but a reasonable reflection of Snyder’s value, which also provides Dream Teamers the cost certainty they crave.
I also think this is as much about Montero, in the sense the FO would be less apt to lock Chris up for 5.75M in 2011 if they thought there was any real chance for Montero to usurp playing time. That was obviously the case this year – I just thought it was interesting they appear to be projecting that evaluation farther out, considering Miguel is three years younger and already hits fairly well for a catcher.
Miguel’s biggest advocate, Randy, is gone and they appear to have lost a good deal of confidence in his (potential) defensive value.
